Can this work?

Long story, ADSL cables stolen in the area of my business. Telkom said they're not replacing them as they will be stolen again.

So now we have a tiny trickle of ADSL and it is a nightmare getting any work done.

I can easily change to a 3G router, but the problem is I have 3 VOIP phones from VOX running on the ADSL line.

Will they work on 3G? I've heard that 3G SP's are not pleased when you use VOIP on their networks.

Thoughts?

They will work, I have a few Supafones on 3G (8ta & Cell C) Vodacom seem to shape or throttle the Vphone domain. So try and get a 8ta or Cell C 3G.... Just check coverage, also make sure your latency & Jitter is very stable (Good Signal basically).....

I have noticed the more the signal fluctuates the higher the Jitter is, If on a low stable signal The phones work fine, as apposed to a high signal that fluctuates a lot.

I use a sip app from the android market + my telfreeclassic free voip and its sorted. With 8ta and 3G I can actually talk with no delay or any breakup....

So just saying it will work on a 3G connection.... Not sure how you going to do you setup but VOIP does indeed work on 3G.

Hope that helps.

Theoretically the cellular operators' terms and conditions do not permit VOIP. But as far as I'm aware they have never actually invoked that clause. Wouldn't be good PR given how many people Skype with their 3G connections!
