with XP there were various releases. I've found it helps to keep the various disks. You might find you were using XP SP1 disks when the license was release prior to a SP. Then you need a version without any SP.This is a bummer situation as I've got a PC with a licence with a similar situation. I've tried various ISOs (original, OEM, volume disc) and not success.
If its a couple of PCs then your better off subscribing to action pack.
