Volvo EX60

My mind boggles at who might buy a horribly over engineered, surely also overpriced, explosive electric tin can behemoth to go shopping when a picanto or polo or suchlike does the job even better. Also where might the average owner find a 400kw powersource in the entire Africa, and likely to bring escum to its knees quite literally.
My mind races ahead wondering the price of a set of probably 22 inch V Rated tyres might be.. Around R30, 000+- I checked.
Africa is not the market. It is a feasible solution for Europe where the infrastructure is here and distances are shorter.

Talking about an explosive tin can. You know the internal combustion engine is a consistent repeating explosion machine.

Volvo unveils adventure-focused EX60 Cross Country

Volvo has whipped the wraps off a new Cross Country derivative, based on the recently revealed SA-bound EX60.

Following the global unveiling of the SA-bound EX60 earlier this week, the Swedish marque has whipped the wraps off the EX60 Cross Country. The EX60 Cross Country was revealed in model-specific Frost Green exterior paintwork and unique wheels. “Cross Country” lettering can be found on the front and rear bumpers, and on the C-pillars. Adding to its adventure-focused proviso, the Cross Country derivative gains fore and aft stainless steel skid plates. The Cross Country benefits from adaptive air suspension, with a 20 mm lift over the “standard” model as default. The latter setup can also be raised by an additional 20 mm.

Volvo EX60 revealed with 800 km range

The Volvo EX60 is the Swedish brand’s latest all-electric offering. Promising huge range, this stylish family SUV is confirmed for SA in 2026.

Essentially, the EX60 is an all-electric five-seater family SUV and Volvo is claiming it is its first product entering the largest electric vehicle segment globally. Rivals included the new Mercedes-Benz GLC EQ and BMW iX3.

Underpinned by the SPA3 platform which is the Swedish brand’s electric vehicle architecture and debuting a number of features like new HuginCore, redesigned battery cells, megacasting and cell-to-body technology, the EX60 looks to be competitive in terms of weight and range.

Total range varies across the lineup, but in all-wheel-drive configuration, Volvo reckons its EX60 can go 810 km on a single charge. The charging speeds look impressive, too, with 340 km of range added in just 10 minutes when using a 400 kW fast charger.

Volvo ramps up EX60 production to meet demand

Ahead of its official SA launch in the third quarter of 2026, Volvo has announced it is ramping up EX60 production to meet demand.

Volvo Cars has announced it is ramping up EX60 production. Indeed, since the release of the Swedish automaker’s all-electric midsize SUV in January 2026, demand for the SA-bound EX60 has shown a substantial increase; higher than what was initially expected.

Volvo has stated its intent on creating a production plan that serves its high quality standards, while increasing the numbers of EX60 units produced at its Torslanda plant in Sweden. The company has reportedly been in talks with the relevant labour unions in order to keep the factory open for an extra week to meet the spike in demand – a measure said to have never before taken by the Gothenburg brand.

“That so many customers ordered the EX60 in the first month has surpassed our expectations, and it’s a good ‘problem’ to have,” said Erik Severinson, Chief Commercial Officer of Volvo Cars. “We are very encouraged to see such strong demand for our game-changing electric SUV, and we are now reviewing our production plans for 2026, as we gear up for the start of customer car production next month.”
