Have been eyeing this car for sometime and finally got enough courage to test drive it (was scared i would be enticed to commit before i was ready). Went to CMH in Cape CBD and met the salesman - Ryan. Really nice guy and he took me through all the details of the car. I must say i had read up on it but was really impressed with his knowledge of the car. Yes there was some sales talk in there but he also had a rare passion for the actual product not just trying to push sales.

Anyhow we left for the drive - he drove first to explain and demonstrate how it all works (its like a spaceship compared to my Mazda). After about 10mins he handed it over to me to drive. Was the T3 manual and i was surprised at how much power it has. It feels really solid - a well built car and drive surprisingly nimbly. Took it on De Waal Drive back into town and i loved the handling in the corners. The amount of driver customisations you can make even on the T3 is mind boggling.

Am looking into getting either the T4 or the D3 but will see what is available and what options i can afford.

A mate has one, he's really happy. He's got the petrol, not sure the derivative, but it's got the fancy instrument cluster that you can change and customise. or do they all have that? anyway, only negative for him is the small boot but it's just him and his wife so wasn't a big deal.

Good luck!

I have the D2. Very happy with it. Fuel consumption is great, driving is great, service from volvo was good.

the power vs fuel consumption of these are awesome but the resale scares me

So get a model with a year or two on the clock and pay it off to keep it long term

Have been looking into this as well and it does seem to be a very viable option. Not many used versions in CPT though but JHB does have quite a number. Only possible drawback I can see with this is that you can't customise what you get...and on a car with as many options as this one you miss some items. But that's a personal opinion

The V40 is one of the nicest cars that I have driven. If you like it then also try the Ford Focus and see which one you can get the best deal on.

The V40 is a derivative the Focus which has the Ecoboost I-4 engine, just with some tweaks to the engine and suspension settings. This means that the 1.6L Focus will be the most direct equivalent.

Any Volvo is a great car. A friend has the S40. Tremendous amount of power, and a good solid drive. No doubt the V40 is exactly the same.
