Voting?

ANC or Nothing.

Will not waste my time voting for other small parties.

You're like one of those people that say "My dad voted KP, his father voted KP, my fathers father voted KP, I will vote KP or nothing"

Kinda sad.

I am a big fan and supporter of the DA, because I've seen their work and the subsequent related improvements that result, BUT, I have, and have had, a gripe with them for a very long time now...

WHY THE #@%^ DO THEY NOT COMMIT THEMSELVES TO VOTER EDUCATION?!

@Merlin it's a costly, time consuming and dangerous process. With limited resources trying to fight the might of the ANC is like trying to convince a Church full of people that God doesn't exist. That said there are continuous campaigns in ANC strongholds like Soweto, Alex but we will only see change when average Joe chooses the future of this country/planet over time standing in line for the latest iPhone or Gaga tickets.

There are millions of ANC members but how many people do you know that are active members of one of the other parties?

Why do some people love to generalise?

I've been speaking to a petrol attendant for months and learned that he had matric. He is in his 20's. So don't assume everyone is uneducated.

There's education, and then there is education. Just because you passed some lousy test in a South African school, albeit the Matric test, doesn't mean you are even close to being a functional, reasoning adult that can understand advanced concepts. Wait, I'm talking about myself here? :p

I don't know even one active DA member personally. I'm sure there are some here in the office but they are awfully quiet about it. The ANC members that I happen to know are very vocal about it.

How embarrassing for them.

To the poster who asked about voter education: parties campaigning and being out there in public and delivering good services in the areas in which they are in power IS = voter education.

I get where the OP is coming from, I really do.

However, there are a lot of people who just won't vote at all. My girlfriend being one of those people. She says that voting will do nothing. It won't effect her - She is a DA supporter. However won't vote for them. Trying to reason with her always ends up in a fight, so, I don't bother anymore.

I will definitely be voting for DA. Reason: I want change. For me, personally, the ANC have done nothing but made things worse. The DA is a glimmer of hope. Might not be a perfect party - but they're better than the ANC.

You will find a lot of black people voting ANC. Why?

Loyalty; for what they did 18 years ago.

I wish, people would see what the ANC have done in recent times and see, that this is not how a party should go about delivering services to its people.

I dont agree, other areas dont experiance it and access to information for the general voter base has and will always be an issue. The DA needs to get out there and pound the pavements if they are serious about winning. From I've gathered, their strategy is weakening the ANC by winning certain provinces and even in some of those provinces they have mentioned they could control through alliances with other parties.

For reasons you already mentioned, the ANC does not have to put that much effort into their campaigns beyond a t-shirts, concerts and a few rallies IMO

I'm more educated than most in this country and I won't be voting in the next election either.
I don't believe in what the DA stands for and the ANC is corrupt and incompetent.
To vote for either of them is to give my explicit approval to the process and thus to the winning party which I cannot do.
I will be spoiling my vote and encourage all other disillusioned people to do the same.

What does the DA or any of the other non-ANC parties stand for?

And what about those policies don't you believe in?

And is there no other party whose policies you do believe in?

How on earth can you not agree with those policies ?

I'm more aligned to socialist/communist policies - the DA is very pro-business, giving higher priority to the well being of corporations and business than of individuals. They are anti trade unions, pro labour brokers (even wanting to remove restrictions on labour brokers), etc, etc

It's not exclusively about education. My black colleagues with engineering qualifications did not vote in the last elections. They are intellectuals, but they were still emotionally attached to the ANC despite seeing first hand the chaos caused by them. So instead of voting against the ANC, they abstain - considering it "quiet diplomacy" a la Mbeki on Zim back in the day. That way a finger can't be pointed at them for being labelled traitors against the struggle.

It's sad really.
