Hi there,

Mods, if this thread is in the wrong section I do apologise.

I have a VOX LTE (Cell C) package 50GB and might be moving to an area where there is no Cell C coverage but according to MTN's website they have LTE coverage in the same area.

Do anyone know if VOX LTE will work if I roam on MTN's network as I see Cell C and MTN have an roaming agreement?

Hope some of the experts here can assist me :-)

Warm regards

Hello,

I'm currently trying to figure this out. I've tried calling Cell C, as well as, VOX. And they don't really seem to know what's going on.

It's strange, I have an LTE account with VOX, (pretty much the same package as you) and I have a Vodacom cell phone contract, my older brother has an MTN contract. We all get the 4g signal. I just can't change to the other networks from my router which has the VOX/CellC sim card.

Have you heard anything back from the Klipdrifter?

Kind regards,

Hi Dan_02

I never got feedback and since then have moved but my VOX LTE was useless.
I tried using MTN's apn but it just wouldn't connect.

I now bring my laptop to work with the LTE and download my stuff on the laptop and when I get home use it on my PC. It is a bit of a hassle but it works for now...

Warm regards

No it will not work.

VOX support escalated my query and confirmed with me that they do not allow roaming. Support also confirmed that if I did have a direct contract with Cell C, I would be able to roam.

In my opinion it probably has something to do with the contract between VOX and Cell C. I mean, Cell C needs to always have some sort of advantage over VOX, otherwise they'd be the same i.to LTE providers? So Cell C exerts power over VOX, disallowing roaming for VOX customers.

What's quite interesting is when I tried to get a hold of Cell C, during my conversation with support it's almost as though I don't exist as a customer. Although I use their SIM and their network they do not have the details that VOX have.

Kinda sucks though, I thought that maybe VOX would just be a broker or 'middleman' to Cell C. But I guess not. They are separate.

Hope it helps,

@dotcat can you maybe explain why it doesn't work? I am just curious as I thought if there is a roaming agreement it should be able to work. I hope you have some more insight :)
As Dan_02 says...MTN roaming only works for Cell C contracts and prepaid. IS Cell C resellers like Vox, Afrihost etc only work in cell c coverage.
