Hi

I've seen the vox pure dsl deals, is anyone having a bad time with the network or has it been consistent?

I see I'll have to only buy a router and I'm assuming someone will come install whatever is needed.

Not sure how this works considering there's no phone line required so why exactly is a tech needed to come and make installation.

You will need a phone line. Been on VOX for a few years now, and it's been pretty solid.

Are you sure? Apparently the "pure DSL" doesn't need one hence saving R200 or something.. Or maybe I'm confused lol

You're correct, the other guy hasn't checked the Ts & Cs!

  • With Pure DSL, a Telkom analogue line is no longer a requirement.**
You don't need a telephone line for it.

Any idea if old adsl router will be compatible for dsl?

Otherwise recommendations for any cheap router that will be able to connect to the pure dsl 20mbps

I believe I need to get that first before going through with taking this.

My old adsl router is Aztech 700WR 3G

Any idea if it will work?

ADSL is ADSL. A router will work on that line.

I am also thinking about going this route but i have some concerns..

I currently have a 40MB VDSL line with telkom , for me to apply for this service i need to cancel my telkom line, this means i would have to give telkom a 30 day notice for cancellation , then once its cancelled i would have to wait for VOX to activate or install my new connection with them, I dont know how long this will take but im pretty sure it wont happen immediately and i would probably sit without a connection for days or weeks.

Anyone been through this?, please share your thoughts or experiences.

Depending on the area the install can take from a few days to a couple of weeks.

The lead time given by Openserve is about 2 weeks. You can time it. Make sure your cancellation is in for everything Telkom. Get the order placed with Vox even if you have to go for a 4Mbps line at first so it's not that expensive if it gets activated early. Then just upgrade it.

Copper Connect which is the old DSL and Pure Connect which is the new Naked DSL is not the same and its a separate installation with a new service number.

Don't forget the early cancellation penalty if you have a 24-month contract with Telkom. It's easier to cancel from the Telkom portal/online than calling their call centre btw. You will still get charged for the next month after cancellation as well.

Does anyone have Vox rep direct email??

No one is really contacting me back.

They are not the most communicative bunch.
I've noticed over the years that they seem to have a sort of "ANC-like" collective management vibe going on at Vox. Every email seems to include a whole bunch of other people in the same department, like joe@voxhelp and sarah@voxhelp, and mike@voxhelp.
The upshot of this, I think, is that each of the vox people on the list seem to just wait till someone else on the list attends to the issue at hand.
Of course, meantime, days go by, and the customer waits...........and waits..........

Just my observation, and I'm sure it's not the case.
(Perhaps they're all hellish busy all the time?)
