So I had TELKOM ADSL, 60Gig capped. Speed consistently 3.5 Mbs down, .5 Mbs up ping around 15ms...
Switched to VOX 75Mb capped ..... Consistently .09 Mbs down, 0Mbps up, ping 354 ms .

Do you think Telkom is to blame or VOX ? Did Telkom get annoyed because I cancelled the data ?

Oh and BTW, got a call from Helkom today stating I will still pay R540 pm just because I have a 4MBS adsl line ?? What is going on here ??

Oh, and I am not over the my cap .... and yes, I did test at various times ..... VOX support still to get back to me, they will probably ask me to do something on the router while I am at a client tomorrow during working hours .....

I have many client on the VOX Gig4Gig package (not heavy users at the office) and its always perfect so I don't believe VOX is the issue to be honest, I have had issues with telkom when they upgrade lines they initiated the ADSL service incorrectly (using G.lite) which is a service that they don't offer and therefore the modem never synchronises properly, had to fight them and only got it sorted out over a week.

Good Luck as its most likely a telkom problem.

Hmm, Telkom gave him better speeds, he switched over to another isp and now it's worse therefore it's telkom problem? Does not compute :D

hi to all

i have fiber 30mg from neotel, and having very slow speed on the upload.
can anyone tell me if they have same problem internationally only.
locally my speed test is 30mg down 60mg up.

thanks gil

@gil70:
We had issues with international speeds with our 10Mbps Neotel fibre connection because our router did not use full-duplex, instead it auto-negotiated half-duplex.

The other issue that you need to take in consideration with international uploads/downloads, is that if the latency is 250ms, then you WILL NOT be able to upload/download faster than 2Mbps PER TCP CONNECTION. So you need to use a download/upload manager that can upload/download using multiple segments/connections if you want to get speeds faster than that.

@JCarstens:
Dial a Telkom guest PPPoE connection and perform a speedtest at http://capetown.spdtst.saix.net/
The PPPoE details are as follow:
User: guest@telkomadsl
Pass: guest
