Just want to do a comparison between VOX and Neotel regarding getting online and connected

I know Neotel is not a VOIP Provider, but maybe Neotel can learn something from VOX

 I was one of the lucky or unlucky ones to win a Neotel portable handset through MYBB I thought great when I won a neotel phone as my mother in law is moving in soon so I thought she could use it seeing that the call rates to telkom phones are cheaper as telkom itself.

I was impressed with the speedy delivery of the Neotel Phone, they delivered spot on on the agreed time. That is the only positive point sofar.

I unpacked the phone set it up according to instructions. Dialed 241 to check balance. My number was quickly mentioned, but so quick I had hardly time to write it down. It was an 011 number that is the least I could pick up. I also heard I had R10,00 airtime.

So I tried to phone myself on my cell to see what my number is.

Now the $hit is starting. I can't phone because I am in a 012 area but my phone number allocated to me is a 011 (neotel delivered it to my house in centurion). Lets phone the call centre.

Call centre can not help me in the end, but they say they will get someone to phone me back shortly to allocate a number in the 012 range.

The next day no one has contacted me yet, so i call the call centre from the neotel device and explain them my situation of being allocated a 011 number while I am in a 012 area. This agent only goes on me not being in a area within neotel range and that I must check on the website if I have cover otherwise she can not help me.

Well that is the end for neotel for me. I haven't been able to make a call on the neotell network now since I received my phone a day ago. (Have received a call from someone in Neotel in the meantime, but no solution)

:D Now the VOX story

I see this great special at the Makro today when collecting my mail

A VOX SupaFone + Additional Handset + R500,00 Airtime Voucher for R799,00. (+R50,00 activation Fee with VOX) Bought it, Followed the instructions, Got my self registered on the website and presto within an hour I have a phone number and I am able to make calls

Plus VOX rates are better as Neotel's rate and I can add other SIP(VOIP) providers as well

Update : I had one problem and that was with the login page on the website to login to the customer control panel, which was not working. This was resolved within the hour.

Another good thing, this morning at 08:00 just received a courtesy call from vox finding out if everything was working fine.

Hi Guys

Not to shoot down VOX or to bad mouth them or there products. They do have really good deals. But in this week alone I had 3 clients complaining about there stability. One client running a small news paper office and they where down for 1 week. Another client a big fiber optic installer with 49 DID incoming numbers to there Digium Switchvox PABX could not phone certain landlines or cellphone numbers and the list can go on. I hope for the best. I can recommend different operators which you can compare call quality and rates. Sorry guys but I have seen Vox go in and out clients businesses for the past 3 years.

i'm no VOX fan, neither do I work for them,
but Vox uses just about any Tom, Dick or Harry as their Telepreneurs. With limited knowledge and training, these guys go in and sign deals, and get VoIP installed, only to do it wrong.

VoIP works for sure, but their is a whole route to follow to ensure it is a stable connection and what technology to use. With limited facilities in South Africa, it definitely is a challenge, but it can be done.

Second it being a challenging field in S.A. - limited technical skills as well as problems with power and internet....
