Vox Wildfire

I have a voucher, will give them a spin...

EDIT:

Had better download speeds for updating Black Ops 2 on Vox than MWEB or Afrihost... could be just that there network is under less stress at present. Pings pretty much the same as MWEB. Will play with Vox tonight, see how it performs..

Sweet, seems you can only get this gaming acc by getting a voucher at look and listen. Its a shame cause I would have signed up.

I Played all night 50% on Vox & 50% on MWEB. I see no difference between the two on Black Ops 2.... MWEB is pretty brilliant (usually) for gaming, so the Vox product looks good. Time will tell though, obviously there are very few users & plenty of bandwidth. I'll try test some torrents on it in the next few days, this will give us a good idea to how it performs vs MWEB (uncapped btw)...

I'm very keen on this test, see how well the uncapped portion of Vox wildfire performs.

Durbs > CPT (SAIX Server) Compared to Durbs > CPT (MWEB Server)

With Vox:

With Afrihost:

With MWEB:

10ms difference between them. I test MWEB because they host Black Ops 2 servers in CPT (Among other ones like GameServers.com servers). So if its is slower then its going to impact gaming (but 10ms is negligible).

Doing a 180mb download (ATI Catalyst Drivers) right now. Its flying at full speed of my 4mb line.
File Used: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/12-10_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql_net4.exe
did not drop under 411KB/s. NICE!

hmmm.... Torrents now ... also running full line speed. I think this test account might be unshaped? I have yet to run a torrent full speed during the day on a shaped / managed account.

EDIT: Wait.... 40% into a 150mb torrent and shape on! 3KB/s ... but as soon as I type that, it shot back up to 380KB/s ?!? Still with MWEB uncapped, best I can do on average in working hours is about 150KB/s.

Edit: I assume from the tests above, Data Pro (Vox) runs on SAIX backbone, so It would inherit any of the Gaming issues Telkom users have when playing on MWEB based servers. I might be incorrect, but thats my guess....

Thanks for the update! :)

The youtube trace is bouncing to different servers though. You might want to single out an IP.

MWEB host the local content cache for youtube / google in SA. So anyone who uses Telkom based ISP's (Telkom peering issues with MWEB) are routed out of the country for youtube / google. The rest who do peer with MWEB will be routed locally. So in essence (not that its important to uncapped) Youtube vids will all be international cap and not local cap....

But in all so far, the account does what it is intended to do, and better than I expected for Torrents... The big question is how it will load balance and shape when there are a lot more users (This is expected obviously - no cheap offer can afford to just give all you can eat). I played an international round of Black Ops 2 last night and it was also the same as MWEB or Afrihost in that aspect. So its as good as we can expect...

Ah I see.

I hope the article is correct and that the monthly one does become uncapped after hours.
I just ordered Black Ops 2 just so I can get my hands on a voucher, from there I hope to sign up for the monthly deal. These days where you can save a few rand really goes a long way.

Well the speed may be decent, but the service so far has really disappointed me. First, once you redeem a voucher there is no control panel for you to view your usage or anything like that - you just have to wait till you hit your 40Gb cap before you're given any other options.

Then, once we hit our cap at about 15:30 yesterday, you still can't buy more or buy the uncapped account, because their system only updates at 17:00 every day. So we wait until 17:00 and then sign up for the uncapped account and get the following message:
Your bandwidth is being allocated, a consultant will contact you shortly. Wonderful. Without any sort of internet service since 17:00 yesterday.

How the hell is it not instant activation Vox? Seriously, this product is aimed at gamers and geeks, not computer illiterates who don't care if they're without internet for a couple of days.

And when you phone their helpline number, you end up at @tlantic internet, talking to people who have no idea about the Vox Wildfire offer.

Tearing my hair out here just trying to get some answers out of these clowns.

I've had no problems. I've finished the voucher, opted for the contract.
I need to cancel my current contract with another ISP so long.

Remember the 40gb voucher is just a trial. For full accounts they would need your details like ID, proof of residence, bank details etc. It's a brand new service so maybe give it some time, they will implement a control panel etc, that I'm sure of. They've never targeted the home market so it's new territory for them.

They've been in regular contact with me. They even called me when they saw a weeks worth of no usage on the voucher and asked if I was having any problems. From my side they have been excellent.

IMO expecting uninterrupted internet service when moving from a trial to a full account (Without providing any documentation as required by law) is just unreasonable.

Hey, I'm happy to provide documentation. How about they contact me and ask for it? Or even better (like just about every other ISP in the country) provide a method to provide your documentation online?

Anyway, they have now activated me, but they have no idea how they're going to bill me and asked me to email them my bank account details.

Seriously? You want me to email you my bank details?

Are there any Vox reps here, who would like to contact me and try and sort this out please?

UPDATE: It appears Vox put this offer together pretty rapidly and after explaining my situation, I've had several calls from them trying to sort stuff out for me, so it appears they are acting to rectify the issues.

Kudos for now - we'll see how things play out.

They've now added a control panel and sign up options on the webpage. Things are moving forward. :) Nice work so far Vox.
