VPN Help?

hello all

I believe it is possible to connect from a home office into a work network.

Is VPN the best way to do this, and if so how do I set it up? Is it a difficult process?

I have a fair amount of experience in managing our back office server so I am not a total novice here.

My home connection is via iBurst.

I have XP pro at home. Is it not possible to achieve this using purely XP pro features etc? (reason being works reluctance to install outside pgms)
 
I am using Hamachi at home and at the office and i can browse my home pc and copy files to and from my home pc at the office and it is very easy to setup.

My connection at home is also Iburst and at work i am using adsl.

A VPN would be the ONLY sane way of doing this. Biggest requirement would be something that the firewall at your office can handle.... Yo do have a firewall at the office i hope. ?

I use checkpoint secureclient to connect to the Checkpoint FW-1 at the office.

Unfortunately not, XP hasn't got proper support for a decent VPN.

I followed a security podcast for a month where they went through all the VPN options and their conclusion was that Hamachi was the easiest VPN and OpenVPN was just the best.

If you got some money to spend, you buy some VPN appliances and some VPN software from guys like dlink, netgear, etc. But here is still some configuration required with this

As nic777 said, No.

I can guarantee you that OpenVPN is more secure than windows...

I will definately look into openVPN. What extra hardware will I need?
I have a wireless router at home, as well as one in the office.

You just need network-connected PCs. OpenVPN runs on all platforms

OPENVPN runs on anything, any connection, any o/s. works like a bomb. with winxp you can even work on your "work" pc from home, as if you are at work, without any special hardware/software

If you wanna go the vpn way, check these out. They should keep you busy for a while, oh... get the "power of the penguin" first :-)

I have been using OpenVPN for a few months now, to my home PC (ADSL), from my laptop. I use the corporate ISP connection, or MTN Edge.

It is super secure and stable. Free is also good.

Setting it up took a little bit of time, and XP SP2 firewall is not happy with it. I changed to ZoneAlarm and that fixed the firewall problem.
