HI,

One of my clients is currently on the MWEB Business VPN (Cisco Routers), and are looking for another (cheaper/monthly.. mweb like to tie you into a contract) alternative.

There are multiple sites accross the country. Multiple users at each site RDPing to a single server for Pastel for instance.

The question is, has anyone come accross any GOOD alternatives or reccomendations? I suppose I could get them Business DSL accounts with static IP's and create a VPN that way... but a managed option is more preferable.

Depends on what other traffic will also go over the link. If it will only be a RDP session a private APN can be an option.

i would suggest going with an mpls based solution like the one vox data pro ... or IS offers.. been using it for one of my clients in 3 different sites and it works great

This.

Well, MWEB Business VPN is a MPLS network, so they are on one already, maybe try find a cheaper MPLS solution from Telkom, VOX or IS.

I would not move them away from a MPLS based network, rather see if you can get it cheaper from another company first

All other options will just create more work for you. Well, that could be a good thing for you if you bill them per hour lol

How important is the uptime?
Do you only need to access the single server?
Is it only 1 way?

If only 1 way then just get a static IP or pay for dyndns, port forward or open up RDP there you go.
Of course, you are opening this up to the internet if you just use dyndns, so that could be a concern.

You could get 1 static IP, use normal dsl everywhere else. Use IPsec tunnels and access the server that way.

The benefit of using a provider for your vpn solution is the SLA they provide. So if you need decent uptime, they can guarantee it and there is no maintenance your side.

It not just one way. Going to look at other mpls offerings, I've never looked into Vox's offering. Thanks

How big is each site?
You could consider running it over a cheaper form of bandwidth with Cisco 877's

Depends on how much management you would like to oversee.

You could go with the roll your own approach and setup this with a small budget using Mikrotik and IPSEC tunnels terminating at a local DC where you host your servers. Static ADSL at the remote sites would be advantageous but not required to get the VPN up.
