VPN setup via adsl

Hi Everyone,

Can aynone give me some more info regarding setting up a vpn using adsl.
I want to connect to my office network with my laptop using 3g.
our office is running adsl.

My problem is that the IP of Adsl is not static......

Anyone have got any suggestions or has one of you guys tried it before.

You can implement a VPN quite easily using dynamic ip addresses by using dynamic dns. There are many dynamic dns providers out there. A popular one is DynDNS.

Try dyndns.com

if you go to http://dyndns.com, you can get a hostname which is resolved to the adsl IP

This IP is updated by a small client installed on a PC that stays on, on the LAN that is connecteed through adsl

so instead of putting the IP in your settings you can use the fixed host name, something like "blah.dyndns.com"

keep your hands in your pockets, this wont cost you a cent

Another one is ww.zoneedit.com for dns server, and www.za.net for a www.*****.za.net web address with subdomains etc. i use that for a while now. That way i can swop email severs, change web hosts etc all seemlessly while keeping the same address and its totally free. The only thing is the program that does the updating.

Excuse the ignorance, but 1. which software can one use to set up the VPN (if any)?
and 2. How must the router be configured?

Ok prox i am no expert, but if you are using win xp on both boxes and you only need to connect one client you have everything you need.
Firstly forward port 1723 to the server.

You can have a look at OpenVPN too Have it working in a corporate setup woorking well...

Go to www.no-ip.com, sign-up, download software. Register domain name for free. And off you go... dynamic ip solved.
