Hoping to get some advice. I have mweb/openserve 50mbps fibre. Normally I can get download speeds of about 48mbps & upload 10mbps. However when I connect via ExpressVpn my speeds drop to about 1mbps download & 0.08 uploads. Not sure how to fix this. I am very non technical.

VPN does not increase speed and will always slow the speed. It's unfortunately limitations in the VPN protocols.

You can try changing between different VPN protocols and see which works better. Check the differences online. Network security depends on which is chosen.

See if your VPN provider supports Wireguard. This should give you improved speed.

Use a proper VPN like Windscribe and then use wireguard or IKEV2. Express vpn's website use Google analytics etc. Stay away.

Nonsense. ExpressVPN is perfectly fine.

Which server location are you connecting to? Also go into your settings and try connecting via UDP instead of TCP...

Depends on the server you're connected to. Try a different VPN location.

This. I use ExpressVPN and always get full speeds, even when torrenting.

Never used then and why should I?

And in 6th place we have ExpressVPN. Bless their hearts, they are only using three trackers. Allow us to express our dissatisfaction! Ba dum tss.

Is UDP and TCP as secure as IKEV2?

Also if you going by through someone else's internet router, can they still snoop your packet/communication?

UDP and TCP isn't a VPN protocol. It's a networking protocol.
IKEV2 is the least secure encryption VPN protocol.

Why are you using a VPN? What are you trying to achieve?

Ok I should have clarified ..using Windscribe, you have option of ikev2,udp, tcp and stealth mode.

I notice when using my own LTE router from Afrihost I can connect using ikev2 but not with the other person's router which is a fibre router from Axxess. It only accepts UDP or TCP or stealth connections, and banking and even AH client zone don't load.
If I disconnect Windscribe when I use alternative router then everything loads fine, hence my suspicion/question.

Apologies for slight thread jack.

Try the wireguard route:

Get the latest beta in Technical in their Discord https://discord.gg/vpn and use Wireguard.

If you want speed Wireguard is the best VPN protocol to use. It's fast with very little overhead.
