Dont know if this is correct sub-forum, but VPS fall under web (me thinks)
How do i create another partition on a debian/linux vps?
When trying to create i keep getting permission errors & diskpart / fdisk / cpart cant access the already created partition on the vps.
Reason i want to do this is to encrypt the created partition using dm-crypt. Is this at all possible?

Rudi doesnt seem like u have permission to create another partition on existing drive space allocated.
VPS only give u allocated 25GB, u can break that down for different users in plesk but not what i wanted.
If u have any ideas let me know.

well, yes. If you have a 25GB slice assigned to the VPS, then you'll only have the 25GB to work with. You could then either re-partition it using LVM (i.e. make a 5GB / & 30GB /home - or something like that) or use the entire slice as one large ext3 partition (just remember to use at least a 1GB swap as well). That's why I'm saying the rules are the same as on a dedicated server, i.e. you only have 25GB to work with.

It sounds to me like you're renting a VPS from a hosting company, and they gave you 25GB space, right? Depending on what they use for the VPS (i.e. VMWare, XenServer, HyperVM, etc) they could easily increase the space for you (probably at an extra cost), or add another disk to the VPS for you.

BUT, if you manage the VPS yourself, on your own dedicated / test server, then you'll need to resize the drive in your VPS management application, or add another disk. With VMWare, XENServer, CloudMin, HyperVM, SolusVM, etc, etc it's normally as easy as just assigning a new disk to the VPS, and then in the VPS you have another HDD to use - which will probably be /dev/sdb

Yup renting vps.
LVM wont work, unless i can alter the vps template & re-install it :(

Will see what they do, opened ticket.
Got vps for real cheap ;) long time client.
