So with the various headsets out there such as Oculus and HTC and PS4 now coming out with one, are we there yet?

VR gaming is something I have been waiting for a long time now but alas I don't have a gaming Pc so can't get the current models, but is it mind blowing or does it feel like still not there?

I will be so tempted when xbox release something but I would need to see and test them it out, but tbh I am very jealous of anyone that has one of these at the moment, such fomo:(

IMHO no, i played with the HTC vive and its playing count the pixels. i would prefer using my screen until they fixed that issue.

got one of the cheaper ones, very cool graphics, but can make people queasy sometimes,

definitely the future, I do agree.

One of the cheaper ones that work with phones? Do they give you a VR experience, I could get one of those, do they have anything for apple, I know Samsung have VR headsets but not sure about apple. I though the phone ones were just like having a big screen in front of your eyes and not really VR
ok, i see options for apple here:

And it looks like apple are busy designing their own headset as well, so maybe should just wait.

Any store in JHB with demos that anyone knows about?

A: buy an android phone :p

this is the set I brought,
https://sensofinityvr.com/product/sensofinityvr-a1-m1/

works brilliantly, brought it on takealot always wonted one of these, loaded the app that shows everything,
google cardboard viewer, and off I go, have quite a few apps loaded on my phone, all quite realistic, but can make one a bit queasy if you not too careful,
especially if you use the reality

store with demos, you missed it, was quite a few displays at RAGE this year, a lot more than last year,

Nope we're not there yet,I see them all rushing to the scene with inferior PPI screens for VR.

The screen door effect is extremely annoying(I cant stand it!),somebody wake me up when we have VR with proper graphics that at least make you believe you're in some alternate reality.

We have a Vive at our office and there are some pretty games out (But not nearly enough). Pixel density is still the biggest issue in my opinion it becomes really obvious after a while.

There are already 4k VR headsets available from China. The screens aren't the problem IMO, it's the GPU power that it takes to render 4k at the kind of framerates you need to not get sick in VR. Personally I dunno if VR will ever be mainstream, but the best shot right now is PSVR.

VR is an overhyped gimmick. It will find a place in the market but it's not gonna be gaming.

Man I hope not, the real world is getting crappier by the day, would be cool to get completely lost in some VR environment

No interoperability standards yet so I would say no. It will probably settle in a market where people will buy a headset to go with the program but for gaming it's just a gimmick.

so no vr worlds to create and smite the population like some vengeful god in the near future?

VR is pretty damn close at being there, it's just people aren't.
People just keep missing the point entirely.

Rumour has it that Bethesda is busy with Fallout 4 in VR. There are some other titles as well to be made VR ready. Plus the current space sims/shooters in VR is spectacular. I have seen Elite on a cheap setup and it was still a experience to behold.

The porn industry will drive this into the mainstream sooner than gaming. True story.

Which VR, that is the question.

And the point is...?

You can either play Cstrike for the rest of your live, or you can dual wield in space pirate trainer and play around with the lassos.

New games are being released for Vr everyday, keep finding something new and amazing.

Oculus touch is perfecting the controls, HTC Vive could be wireless soon. Were like 1 year away, then it's "there".

It's not about just having some 3D picture, it's about being able to move around in that world, with a degree of freedom and being able to manipulate it.
