Hi,

Been through the whole "unrestricted" APN mission with remote sites in the Eastern Cape where signal leaves much to be desired. Thinking about going the VSAT route as we have onsite cameras and we need to log in remotely through a Dyndns connection - which is already setup. My question is: Does VSAT allow such connections, will it allow port forwarding or do I have to look at something else...?

DSL would've been majorly fantastic but unfortunately not an option in this situation.

Thanks!

Indeed so far, Mweb has setup a client with the VSAT connection in the Eastern Cape, and there seems to be no ports blocked at all, which is why I've setup a Mikrotik directly behind it with its own firewall. Doing research and finding not much, it came down to actual testing on site.

I am trying to establish if VSAT from Vox Telecom is a viable solution as apposed to Telkom and their unreliable ADSL fixed lines?

Is there issues with latency using Satellite connections, this is a big concern as the need to transmit video (Conferencing) to other locations within 150 km is of utmost importance !

Has anyone experienced the services of Vox Telecom in The Eastern Cape (East London and surrounding areas)?

I only see your question now Marius.
Did you manage to get a solution for your VC needs?

Interesting, w.r.t. the ports etc. I signed up with Vodacom VSat, but it appears to block Torrents.
I'm unsure of this as I'm unable/don't know how to test Torrents other than with the uTorrent app on my Samsung tablet. I use it exlusively at home with WiFi at home as we how next to zero cellphone reception.

Anyone know how I could test whether Torrents is blocked over my VSat?
