Is there anyway of checking whether I have VDSL or ADSL?

I have 20mbps and using an ADSL modem, but I'm not sure if I should be running a VDSL modem

VDSL only works if you are connected to a VDSL MSAN. I have a Telkom Pace modem and it stopped working after they switched me over to the VDSL MSAN. I had to change the setting of the Pace modem to use VDSL and not ADSL before it worked.

You should be connecting with ADSL2+ then as opposed to normal ADSL or VDSL.
