Did anyone else with Vstar get told that they could no longer have the 512/128 they where paying 3000.00/month for? Where you offered 128/128 at a supposed lower contention ratio for the same price for the next 12 months? Did they go ahead with these changes without your approval? Is your internet access also dead slow now? I have been monitoring a clients connection for a few days now and they are only getting 32kB during office hours. At least I get the 64kB I pay for on my ISDN.

Mate i think Sentech is having MAJOR bandwidth problems at the moment due to the MyWi service being so popular, those of us on MyWi have been experiencing bandwidth problems, maybe its worth checking out the MyWi forums esp those complaining about bandwidth.

RE: switching packages without telling, we've been pretty worried about this happening on the MyWi forum, but weren't to sure about whether sentech would do that to us or not. Very scary to here they have

That's horrid, lowering the package just like that.
Telkom definitely has competition.. in the who-can-go-the-lowest arena..

This just proves once again that there is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth. Was sentech honest to the users when they sold the service to them? Seems not.

It's sad that sentech has the licenses to provide the services, but seem to lack the competency needed to provide them. (Wonder if BEE has anything to do with this?)

TheRabbi there is no such thing as Bandwidth in SA LOL!

Fantasy is what people want, reality is what they need.

I spoke to Sentech about the miserable 32kb throughput on the 128kb Vstar, they said my client was quite fortunate to get anything over 8.5kb as there is a contention ratio of 15:1. They then went on to say that they where as well off as they had been with the 512kb at 50:1. The speed issue has only come up in the last couple of months, how can they expect someone to run a business with 10 people sharing a 8.5kb - 32kb connection. I will certainly not recommend Sentech's Vstar product to anyone - and to think they are now charging R5186.00 per month for this with 1x IP, **** throughput and terrible latency. For the same price you can get a dedicated 64k diginet from telkom.

ChrisW,

Why don't you suggest to your client that they tell sentech to get knotted and then try the Telkom VSAT solution?

[root@thor test]# ncftpget -R ftp://ftp.is.co.za/mirror/ftp.openoffice.org/stable/1.0.2

Lucky it's more than they promiced ;-)
