Hi

First timer on MyBB. I wanted to find out if anyone had success using their own 3rd party router instead of the Vuma Reach provided ONT/built in router?
The Huawei all-in-one device provided by Vuma is totally k@k and restricted so much so that the network id, passwords etc. can't even be changed. I've heard about the possibilty of bridging, which makes the huawei crap box act only as the ONT and have your own router be the "network manager" but is this possible? Would suck spending 1.5k on a nice 5ghz dual band fibre router if I'm limited to the Vuma reach ONT/router.

Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome. I am also on VumaReach. There are two threads you can look into for more info (MitchellsFibre & Vumareach Southern Suburbs).

But short answer is no you cant do any bridging, ip passthrough or DMZ solution. you can still connect your router behind it but will most likely still get double NAT. but your 3rd party router should still work..

PS. there has been alot of debate around it in the threads so you are not alone in your frustration, but for the time being you are lockedown tighter than cyrils facemask.

Thanks for the info. It is a big frustration. I guess thats the downside to having low cost "cheapie" fibre.

Correct. you cant fault them on the price and quality of the line. and the fact they rolling out to areas that wasnt really earmarked for fibre.

yes its a frustration but you getting a good internet connection for the price. I will still keep probing the ISP to check if a solution can be found.
