Vumatel and Openserve price increases announced

It sucks that you cannot get 1Gb/s on Openserve.

On MFN you can get 1000/500 for R1,377 vs. R1,495 for 500/250 on OpenServe, both through Afrihost.

Nah, will stick with wireless unless a network comes along that's actually serious. Done with these Mickey Mouse operations.

Not really.

Fibre is a sprinter and Starlink a long-distance runner.
But at what cost?

If cheaper uncapped/high cap is available:
  • Starlink
  • Fixed LTE/5G
  • WISP
these products put downward price pressure on Fibre Network operators (FNO).
Most suburbs only have 1 FNO and thus don't have competition.

Frogfoot already increased their prices last month, it cost me R80.00 more this month.

Starlink puts some fibre offers to shame and in a lot of African countries have come in among the cheapest. You also can't compare the quality and service levels of our fibre to international.

I've downgraded to 30 mbps upon reading this news and may even switch to 5G soon. Fibre is no longer that appealing with these price hikes.

If only a South African born tech billionaire would release some kind of satellite Internet thingy here. But that's just crazy talk, I know.
