I really hope somebody on here can offer some advice.
Over the past two weeks I've gone through the painful process of migrating from 4mbps ADSL to 20Mbps Fibre on Vumatel infrastructure with Telkom as my ISP - before I get the whole "should have chosen a better ISP", I opted for this route because a) I'm still bound to a Telkom contract and b) they covered the whole R3500 installation / activation / router cost.
Long story short - fibre installed, line activated and I have connected the Zyxel SBG3300 router to the CPE via WAN / IPoE.
Here's the hitch - first-off, the LAN1 ethernet port LED on the switch is Orange instead of Green (which I don't fully understand but think it means the network is operating at 10 / 100 mbps instead of at gigabit speeds (might be the other way around). Secondly, and for the love of all that is good, the service is still operating at 4mbps. I've spent about an hour a day for the past week on the line with Telkom technical support / orders and sales, bouncing backwards and forwards. It seems the same TIN number has been used for the new service which is causing the problem. Sales says no, Technical must reconfigure the TIN, Technical says no, Sales needs to load the new speed onto the TIN, and so on and so forth and to-date, no resolution. But I'm started to wonder how the back-end work looks on this.
I vaguely understand that Vumatel works on a VLAN created by the ISP via the CPE which is distributed by WAN by IPoE. Now does the creation of the VLAN at the ISP entail applying the internet username and password at the back-end, because I can still select the TIN number and reset the password via my telkomsa.net profile? Wouldn't that then interfere with whatever credentials are being applied to create the VLAN? So confused but don't know what more to do to help Telkom just get us running at the right speed.
