Hey everyone,

I'm having problems logging on to xbox live through my vumatel 20meg fibre connection.

I am unable to play anything online, and xbox live doesnt connect properly, I can see my friends online but everything else is down. Some days xbox live works but the online gaming doesnt, ever.

Anyone with similar issues? this has been ongoing for about 2 weeks now.

I had terrible issues on my PC / Laptop to the fibre until I figured out the router didn't like IPV6 - so I turned that off on the computers and everything worked great.

ISP - Cool Ideas
Router - TP Link something or other :) I'm not at home so forgot the model

Previous replies, I'm not sure of the ISP to tell you the truth as the fibre came with the place I'm renting. The NAT is open when I plug the xbox directly into the router but strict when its via WIFI. Trust me I have done every single thing I can to try get xbox live to work properly (hard reset, updates, offline update, new profile, deleted old profile, port forwarding).

Im on IPV4, I should try 6 and see if that works, dont know much about that though I will have to look it up.

Its super frustrating and it is definitely the connection. If anyone has similar issues please let me know and also how you resolved it.

Have you checked the time settings on the router and console? Sounds dumb, but it can help.

I'd also check that the XBox is on Auto IP settings, that DHCP is enabled on the router. If that doesnt help, DMZ an IP and assign the XBox to that and test again (Don't leave it like this, just for testing)

Check with landlord that you aren't sharing a connection with other tenants, and that there is no additional routing happening between VUMATEL and you. If they are privately splitting VUMATEL, that could be the issue.

You will need to find out the ISP you are on. Try WhoIsMyISP.org. Note that IS(internet solutions) is NOT your ISP in this case,

Otherwise, give Vuma a call and tell them you aren't sure, they should be able to help from your IP address.

Thanks for the suggestions dude.

I tried the above, I think you're right I need to contact the ISP and see if they can help. Its frustrating.

If the line is being shared would there be a dip in the line speed? I still get around 20mb, sometimes 17mb but normally around there. Is there a way to find out without contacting the landlord?

The speed drops are normal, you won't always get full speed on a consumer grade line, even with fibre.

ISP is the best bet, they might be able to tell you how everything is connected.

Taking a look through other threads in the fibre section there does seem to be general Vumatel issues with international traffic at the moment.

Vumatel is not an ISP, so they don't offer any internet traffic.
They only offer underlay (fibre connectivity) to the ISP's which breakout to the internet via various other providers on on their own...

Agreed in principal, but some ISP's were being hit with DDOS on the Vumatel side of things.

Agreed

Maybe to explain a bit - each ISP has its own IP subnet advertised to the www either direct or via an upstream ISP (BGP Peering).

Point is, Vumatel is carrier and does not participate in BGP peering between ISP's but rather provides infrastructure to connect them (BGP Peering is Layer3 service - Vumatel provides a Layer 2 service - point to point connectivity between a customer and ISP...the device on the wall only gets a VLAN assigned on port1 - IP address gets provided by the ISP via the assigned VLAN)

So, lets say that we have the same ISP on Openserve and Vumatel - that ISP would advertise certain IP block (subnet) on Openserve and another subnet on Vumatel.
The DDoS can target the subnet advertised to the ISP via Vumatel infrastructure, hence internet service offered via Vumatel infrastructure would degrade. Same would be if the attack targets subnets advertised via Openserve, or any other carrier...

DDoS are pains in the butt, but don't last too long as they require resources, both network as well as processing power and are aimed to disrupt service and not steal files or anything else... In this case, I believe that the reason is to "ruin" the reputation of Crystal Web for some (unknown) reason.
