Vumatel's technician's car broke down.

I had my fibre installed last week and it only started to work last night because someone at Vumatel provisioned my line to the wrong ISP.

They gave my line to Vodacom instead of Vox.

They should add the ability to remain semi conscious as desirable in their recruitment doctrine.

Out of all the things I did not see Parys getting fibre in 2020.

You're going to be so happy, I am in Sasolburg and got the 50/50, it's like butter:

Almost an hour late now, nobody here and Britelink not picking up the phone, lol, lekker Vumatel!

10/10 subcontracting!

EDIT: They picked up and then some mind blowing escalation followed!

Now they're here! Yay! Then they opened up the little plastic manhole cover to discover nothing, there's no "fibre box" outside, lmao, this just gets better.

They worked till past 12 last night, busy this morning too, hectic, the ONT seems to be stuck at O2 and O3 (Serial registration)

Looks like the Tx Optical times out every few seconds.

Props to Ray, Ivan and team (Britelink / Vuma etc), these guys really want this thing to work.

Seems fibre can be lekker full of kak if it wants to.

Funny @AfriNatic isn't posting in this thread, you know, considering this is YOUR service I'm ordering! lol

What is it you guys do exactly? All the work here is done by me, Britelink and Vumatel, you guys just collect the check? Lekker, I should be sending YOU guys a bill!

When I phoned Afrihost basically all I got was "Damn, that sucks, huh."

With fibre there are 2 components to the line.

1. The FNO in your case Vumatel (Previously SADV)
2. The ISP in your case (Afrihost)

When you place an order with us we place a line order with the FNO. They do the install because after all it's them that build the network. We don't have access to the networking part of the build that Vumatel did. We charge the installation and hand that money over to Vumatel. Every month you pay us for your fibre portion a good chunk of that fee goes to Vumatel.

You mentioned Britelink and they are sub contractor for Vuma Villages usually. That means Vumatel will be paying them a portion of the fee you paid us to do the installation.

Every entity involved has a part to play to make sure your fibre is up and running and working as expected. Assuming we just pocket the money is not entirely true but I'm glad you are getting goo service with regards to the installation. Happy to see dedication from everyone involved. If you do run into snags let me know.

I think the modem (ONT) is not lekker, it gets Rx fine 100% but times out Tx every few seconds so it's stuck between O2 - O3.

They'll replace the modem to check hopefully that was the issue, better than redoing everything else!
It's probably unrelated but my fibre in Sasolburg has been down since 22:40 last night.

there at least 5 floating around my area... where you need a passport to goto in the far far far east rand
Sounds like my neck of the woods, i''ve never waited more than a few hours for them to rock up.

Probably going to be a few outages with all the rollout going on!
I hope by the time yours works everything is fixed.

Mine was installed last week Thursday, GPON light kept flashing, Vumatel had to come out again to redo part of the cable and resplice the fibre because the first installers messed up, the first time I could connect was Monday night at 20:34 and then Tuesday night at 22:40 it went offline with loss of signal and it is still offline now.

"The is an outage in your area, technicians are still busy with repairs and we do not have an ETA at the moment."

Edit: they showed up now at 16:28, luckily I only reported the fault at 08:02.
