Cape Town - Nigeria’s official supporters’ club have rejected the vuvuzela and said they will push to discourage the use of the instruments of South African origin after the Fifa Under-17 World Cup.

“It is noisy and it is not part of our culture,” Rafiu Ladipo, the President of the Nigerian Football Supporters’ Club, told KickOffNigeria.com. “Our culture, the Nigerian way, is to support our teams by singing songs that make meaning and send messages to the players on the pitch.

“That is accompanied by drumming and trumpets. Our songs have different meanings that let the players know what to do at any point during a game.

“But when they blow the vuvuzelas, you don’t even know which side they are supporting. It has no meaning; it is just noise and it irritates the players and people alike.

“The players have complained that they cannot hear the whistle. Immediately after this championships [Under-17 World Cup], we will discourage people from using this vuvuzela because it is not in our culture and it does not make sense.”

Good for them.

I was told that there is a girl group in S.A called La Vuvuzela :eek::eek:

It looks like the vuvuzela is spreading like a wild fire. I bet'ya that soon the sound of the vuvuzela will be the only sound bellowing from the stands...:D

OT: I'm glad they made this decision as it's nothing but noise pollution. Show your support for your country and team by singing national songs of praise.

The trouble is nobody moaned about the vuvuzela's until the world cup came about, now suddenly vuvuzela's that have been in SA sport for many years are called noisy and pointless.

Sad in my opinion. If you do not like them do not go to the game or turn the volume down.

Ok dude chill
Vuvuzelas is Nigeria...ffs, what does that tell ya?

It tells me that even they have seen the error of their ways. Obviously South Africa hasn't moved this far on, but we will get there eventually.

What satisfaction does one get from making a noise? It's just that, noise, not undulation, not praise, not even resent. Not to mention that it makes trying to hear the referee's voice or whistle a chore unto itself.

Umm.... I thought 2010 was going to be about South African culture ...

Or is Nigeria suggesting we use Nigerian culture for their games, European culture for their games etc ?

Perhaps when Nigeria plays we can all go and claim our international lottery winnings.

:D looks like all the Nigerians based in Jhb have taken something back home with them!!! The ultimate punishment for letting all their guys come down here in the first place :D!

I actually like the Vuvuzela sound, purely because that's the atmosphere I'm used to and come to expect from a soccer match. It feels like home to me...

But I have to admit that it'll be nice to have a few songs to sing... I find that's there's one or two (well just Shosholoza actually) that we sing at soccer but not much else... has always bugged me, having also grown up with We'll Never Walk Alone! Almost enough to take pen to paper and write a song myself (almost)...

Rugby is worse, I really can't find anything to sing, was quite upset at the British Lions tour in that the British are quite vocal in singing their songs but we could come up with any response to it! Wished I had a Vuvezela then, just to drown out the noise of their sick 'Lionnnnsss, Lionnnsss' chanting :D!

I went to a couple of the confed cup games and there were just as much foriegners blowing the vuvu's as locals.

Why?

Just because a girl has big tits does not mean she is stupid you sexiest thing you :D.

Um.....

Well thank you Killa I never realised you thought of me that way

*uncomfortable moment*

:erm:

They have been banned from Rugby matches for as long as they have been around ;) Only Soccer in SA allows them.
