Hi, I am having a problem with my Velociti. 2 days ago it refused to start. The engine turned but the car would just not start. The next morning it started first time but when I stopped to put in air it did the same thing. I left it for 5 minutes and then it started again first try. Last night it started fine but when I pulled out of the parking the engine cut out. The car has recently been for a service (End of Jan) and has never misbehaved before. I thought it may have been a fuel prob but the VW guy told me that he doubted it. It's not the battery and there is petrol in the car. Does anybody have an idea of what the problem may be.

Thanks
Dat.

I would assume its the coilpack but did you take the car to VW to get it checked ?

The problem is electrical. Some relay not switching. Or a fuse that is lose.

I suppose it would be lame to say that at least they circled the problem at production ? :-)

I have a Renault Kangoo Company van that did that once while I was driving it. I stopped for ten minutes, went inside an office, came back out and it wouldn't start. Just kept turning over. I think it was the immobilizer because even though it appeared to be working properly the car wouldn't start. I checked spark plugs, etc, nothing. I then suspected the immobilizer so I checked under the dash and saw the wires running to it, they were insulated with black tape, I fiddled around with them and it started right up. I suspect it's the same problem in your case, if you've checked the usual suspects. (coil, spark plug leads, fuel filter, etc.)

Have the Golfs got OEM alarm/immob? If it's an aftermarket system, get in the car, push in the anti-hijack button and then press you're remote. It should beep, do this again and it should reset the alarm. Works on AutoWatch system, not sure about others.

While we are talking about Velo's a quick thread hijack

Mine went in to have alternator serviced and battery replaced so the factory head unit rebooted, so I entered the PIN..twice....incorrectly :(

Now it is looked on 'SAFE' and won't let me enter anything else. The manual says it is meant to let me try again after an hour. But it doesn't :( Ideas?

unplug the battery again?

Maybe your fuel line is clogged up...

Yip thats what I think... or the fuel pump. You can check it yourself, small whit thingy left hand side of the engine... check the arrows.

It is working again. There was a pipe going from the air filter that had come off. I presume that was the problem as it seems to be ok now. *shrugs* Thanks for the advice :)

@H, when it is locked on safe turn the car off and don't even put the keys in. After an hour you should be able to re-enter the CORRECT pin :D. I locked mine a couple times and that sorted it out.

I have tried that - tried keeping the CD player on and off, and nothing seems to help...
