VW ditches electric-only strategy

PHEV's make the most sense. Benefit from EV mode in town and fuel mode on the highways long distance. Recuperate energy when braking. Thereby reducing emissions by 50% +. Isn't that the goal?

I miss the good old days of diesel hatchbacks.

I saw the notification that you had quoted my post and thought I was going to have to endure you trying to wreck German cars like you are doing to Chinese cars  I am pleasantly surprised that you have a mild fetish for soot monsters like I do.

Oh I love diesel, if it were up to me every car would have a diesel engine as an option. You must be confusing me with Greta.

Here is the reality: you need one small technological breakthrough, and one economic one and EVs are redundant.
1) Industrialisation of CO2 to liquid fuel.
https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2021/11/211115123443.htm
2) Widespread adoption and standardisation of nuclear energy to power the process.

This effectively turns every single ICE currently on the road into a nuclear-powered vehicle that is carbon neutral and has the same performance, range and reliability we currently have.
