This thing has been ticked off in my car for the last 45k km, but I have no idea what it is or how it works, or even if it works. Does anybody here have any idea what this is?

Ignition on Acc? If not, your engine needs a service. See the orange idiot light in left clock? ;)

Just pushed the fob halfway in. All the dash lights are actually on.

Its basically a tiredness warning - it picks up out of the norm driving patterns like jerky steering , lane deviations and if it deems necessary give a warning sound and i think flashed on the Dash to wake you up and take a break

Car is not on. Just inserted the fob without starting the car.

Late night. Bit tired. Driving along when suddenly the dash starts screeching at me and and some light starts flashing at dash. Only at that moment did I realise how tired I was and basically half asleep at the wheel. Couldn't even make out the icon (hazard sign) flashing in the dash. Very useful feature that. Do not untick.

Ok, so it actually does work. Which vehicle do you have? I just thought that it has been ticked for almost 2 years and just wondered if it actually does anything.

What you should do in the future is buy yourself a self drive car as soon as they become available.

I actually test drove a focus a few moths ago that has the lane assist feature. Very nice to have. Bit overkill for me though as I drive mostly in stop-go traffic.

Has the fault reset itself?

Maybe disconnect the battery and take a look see if it happens to go off and when its starts again.

I imagine, there is a counter in the engine that measures ''up time'' then triggers the alarm?

Fault? I think I must just start the car and take a new pic, that light is just confusing everyone.

Disconnecting the battery in a modern car is NOT something you just do without first reading the manual. Now if OP read his manual then he would have known what the indicator meant in the first place. making all this debate academic.

I had an idea, just thought others that has seen in working might know better. I might still take out the manual this weekend to which sensors it uses.
