Vw Golf cv joint covers - replacement period

I seem to be replacing the rubber cv joint boots quite often - like three times yearly. I replaced both cv joints myself some time ago, but the rubber covers just don't seem to last. Any, opinions ? I purchased the joints from Midas.

The only thing that I can think of is that you either don't install them correctly or Midas is giving you the wrong cv joint boots.

Thanks. True, but from a mechanical point of view, they are pretty straight forward to replace, though quite tedious. One thing that I did notice is that they seem, not to tear nor does the boots come off the cv joint, but they rather become brittle and crack at the edges of the rings on the boots. The grease then leaks out.

Shees it's hard work to replace those boots. Buy one from Goldwagen and one from the Agents to see if they last longer. Paying a little more and not having to replace might be worth it.

Seems like inferior quality boots being sold to you, but strangely I have never encountered something like this. Mine would always just tear after a couple of years service. I always buy my parts from Midas and never had any problems with the quality of their parts.

The fact that they become brittle seems to suggest that they are getting a lot of heat (or maybe they are just made from very poor quality rubber), did you have this problem before installing the new cv joints?

Forgot to logout last night !! - Umm no, the original cv joints lasted quite long. I'm beginning to suspect that the shop who replaced them the previous time, swopped the drive shafts, because they look a little thicker.They have long since closed down. I did not have the time to do it myself, so I used them. And I too have used Midas parts and they are all just fine. Look, everthing has an explanation, and I will continue to get to the bottom of this. I'm glad to have other Vw owners experience, now. Will post an update. Thanks !!!
