Driving a borrowed gold whilst my car gets repaired. Filled up for the first time and gets handed the fuel cap with the key stuck in the barrel. Using lots of force won't help.

Is the a way to release the key from barrel?

Q20 on the locking mechanism on the inside of the cap. If it still doesn't budge, try some Q20 in the key barrel.

The fuel cap on my Alfa won't release the key unless it's taken out of the fuel cap when it's replaced.

Tap the key lightly with a small hammer (or whatever you can find) while trying to turn it.

And if that doesn't work, tap it with a large hammer and then go buy a new fuel cap.

Fortunately the fuel and ignition keys were different. It took 2 hours of oiling and various levels of force, pleading and raving to separate.

I dared not fill up again and my car was delayed for 5 days more. In that period I only drove to work and in the weekend did not start the golf.

Monday morning comes with a flat battery that would not kick either.
