hi Guys

I recently bought 1994 Jetta CL, I think it need new cam belt/timing belt, any ideas who is the best mechanic at the good price. I just service the car myself,only thing left is the belt.
Also I need to do diagnostic testing, on the electrical side not sure where to go in Durban.Thanks guys.

The OBD standard was only introduced in late 1999, your car may have diagnostics but its very basic.

Your card should hardly have any advanced electrical components so diagnostics is pointless.

Sure it's a Jetta 2? I am almost certain the Jetta 3 was introduced here late 1992 or early 1993.

And if it's really a Jetta 2 CL, it should be a 1.6 carb.
Even the Jetta 3 CL was a 1.8i 8v with a bosch mechanical fuel injection system.

Changing cambelt on these 8v engines is also quite straight forward, if you have the tools you can do it quite easily yourself.

Jetta 3 was CSL > CSX > CLX > CLI (2.0l FI). No CL afaik. The first couple of years were still carb for the 1.6 and 1.8, and only later did the CSL, CSX and CLX get fuel injection.

Yep - My mom's was a 1994 CSL and I remember her having to pull the choke out to start it as a kid.
