vw jetta 3 1.8i no spark

Hi Guys,

i have a jetta 3 1.8i csx.

It does not get spark, i opened the coil plug and when i try starting the car it sparks once or twice.

when i removed the distributor and spin it by hand it sparks as normal, i tried running ground to the distributor and turning by hand and it does the same thing as wen it is on the car.

any advice as what could be the problem?

i changed the coil and it started sparking, thanks for the advice
