Hi, I have a Jetta 1.8T. The rear view mirror has come loose from the fitting on the windscreen This mirror has the electronics for the rain sensor as well as automatic dimming of the miror against brightt lights. Barons in Tokai and PG Glass Plumstead have said they can't help. Does any one know of a place in Cape Town that can re attach the mirror to the windscreen? Thanks

What pg glass can't help? How do they usually do it when replacing the widescreen :/

The windscreen comes with the fitting attached and then they clip the mirror. In this case the mirror has come loose from the fitting and needs to be reglued (I think).

Do you mean the fitting is detached from the windscreen? I've seen adhesives in places like Midas and Autozone that are purportedly designed for this job

Just remember that you have to use special glue, and PG should have it!

If you use something like Superglue, the windscreen will crack.

It depends what materials you are glueing. If it is PVC, then a PVC weld glue will suffice. It has to be held rigid for 6 hours out of the heat. If it is a dissimilar material and one of them is metal, an epoxy glue will work better, same attachment considerations. Do not use superglue, it is too brittle and expansion of the materials will case the bond to break. Ascertain the cause of the break. Is the component fractured or distorted? Did an impact cause it to come off?

Hi, I had the windscreen replaced some time ago, and the mirror fitting which looks like a clamp has come loose from the rubber fitting attached to windscreen. The mirror came loose gradually and was hanging by about a third of the fitting, now it has given up ghost entirely! I need to re attach the mirror to the rubber thing on the windscreen. Barons and PG glass do not have the correct glue. I Need to find out if anyone knows what glue to use, where I can get it, or a repair shop I can go to. Thanks

I had the same problem with my car after 'the guys that stand at the robots' replaced it through the insurance. I just phoned them again and they used some "special glue" and then it was fixed.

Super glue doesn't count as special glue. ;)
