Unlike the rest of the world that gets the lovely B8 Passat:

https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/628651-2015-VW-Passat-B8

America gets this lipstick on pig old version. Note the old platform, dated styling, old school handbrake, small infotainment system & non-digital dials etc

This is the latest performance version. "The new Volkswagen Passat GT will be powered by Volkswagen's 3.6-liter VR6 engine, making it a true sport sedan. Producing an impressive 280 horsepower (208kw) at 6,200 rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque (350nm)."

Volkswagen Passat GT [US]

Volkswagen of America, Inc., debuted the 2018 Passat GT special model at the 2018 North American International Auto Show. The production model, previewed by a concept at Automobility LA in 2016, was designed by the company's North American engineering hub in Chattanooga, Tennessee, based on extensive feedback from U.S. customers and dealers.

"The Passat GT illustrates how the North American Region can shape Volkswagen vehicles specifically for the U.S. market," said Dr. Matthias Erb, Chief Engineering Officer, North American Region, Volkswagen. "Combining a local perspective with our global engineering expertise allows us to create vehicles that meet the needs and desires of customers here."

The Volkswagen Passat GT joins the Passat lineup for model year 2018 as a limited-run special model based off the R-Line trim. It will be available in four exterior colors-Pure White, Reflex Silver, Platinum Grey, and Deep Black.

Starting at the front, Passat GT differentiates itself from standard Passat models with standard LED headlights and LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). It borrows the R-Line bumper and adds a honeycomb grille, GT badge, and a red accent line, reminiscent of the high-performance Golf GTI. A sport suspension gives it a more planted stance and cements the aggressive look.

Moving around the side of the vehicle, the GT receives sporty touches from top to bottom. A black roof is complimented by black mirror caps and black window and door trim. Two-tone 19-inch "Tornado" wheels are accentuated with red-painted brake calipers, another nod to Volkswagen's performance heritage.

The 2018 Volkswagen Passat GT is expected to arrive at U.S. Volkswagen dealers in the second quarter of 2018. Pricing for the Passat GT starts at $29,090. The destination charge is an additional $850.

Volkswagen gives its US-spec Passat GT a VR6 heart…

The Passat that Volkswagen sells in the United States is significantly different to the one it sells in Europe (and South Africa). Next year, North America will finally move its version onto the MQB platform, but not before the model has had a VR6-flavoured swansong.

Yes, this is the Passat GT, which has officially debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Previewed by a concept back in 2016, the special edition model is based on the R-Line trim and will be available in the US in four exterior colours (white, silver, grey and black).

The Passat GT boasts standard LED headlamps, a honeycomb grille, GT badging and a red accent line inspired by the Golf GTI. There’s also a black roof, black side-mirror caps and two-tone 19-inch “Tornado” wheels (framing red-painted brake callipers). A sports suspension system lends the Passat GT a more planted stance.

Round back, you’ll find a subtle black spoiler and blackened LED taillamps, while the rear bumper houses more black trim and dual exhaust exits (complete with an “acoustic package”). Inside, there’s yet more black trim along with a sprinkling of added standard equipment.

So, back to that powerplant. The Passat GT uses Volkswagen’s 3,6-litre VR6 engine, producing 209 kW and 350 N.m. A six-speed DSG transmission comes standard, along with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Needless to say, this model won’t be offered outside of North America…

2020 Volkswagen Passat [US]

Volkswagen of America, Inc., unveiled the new 2020 Passat at the 2019 North American International Auto Show. Eight years ago, Volkswagen completely overhauled the midsize sedan to cater specifically to American buyers, with more interior space and creature comforts combined with the company's signature fun-to-drive nature. Building on the success of that model, new Passat offers more of what matters: bolder design, upgraded technology, and enhanced access to convenience and driver-assistance features.

"Passat is the only midsize sedan to offer German driving dynamics at an affordable price and has long resonated with buyers for its combination of comfort, reliability and driving dynamics," said Scott Keogh, CEO of the North American Region, Volkswagen. "With this new model, we've stepped up the style factor and upgraded the technology to make it even more attractive. In addition, we've made desirable convenience and driver-assistance features more accessible."

While the 2020 Volkswagen Passat retains the underpinnings of the previous model, it has been completely restyled. A dynamic coupe-like roofline, dramatic "tornado" line, and dominant grille give the Passat a bold new look-at once, elegant and sporty. Standard slim LED headlights and taillights, along with more prominent Passat badging that runs the width of the trunklid, give the car a more premium look. Standard 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels enhance the sophisticated design, and 18- and 19-inch wheels are available.

Inside, the Passat combines a sophisticated new design and upgraded technology with the spacious cabin that made the outgoing model popular. The cockpit features a horizontal design, incorporating air vents that flow across the dash in a style reminiscent of premium models. A new, more contemporary instrument panel has been fitted, along with a new glass-covered infotainment touchscreen. Complementing the new interior design are new colors and premium materials. Three interior décor designs are available, based on trim. Volkswagen's V-Tex leatherette and Nappa leather seating surfaces are available in addition to the standard cloth seats, and offer four color options.

New US-market Volkswagen Passat heads to Detroit show

America-only Passat receives power boost for petrol powertrain and redesigned interior

Volkswagen has pulled to covers off its new Passat for North American customers at the Detroit motor show.

The second-generation model, which is mostly unrelated to the European Passat in terms of mechanicals, is due to arrive at dealerships in the summer. It’s said to have been redesigned “to cater specifically to American buyers, with more interior space and creature comforts” as well as what Volkswagen describes as a “fun-to-drive nature”.

The exterior, in particular the front end, takes design inspiration from the recently released new Touareg SUV. Inside, it’s typical Volkswagen fare, with a standard glass infotainment screen, although there's no mention of the Active Info Display digital instruments available on the European model. A significantly more advanced suite of driver assistance functions has been included, too.

A 172bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine sends power to the front wheels through a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. New software in the gearbox allows an increased torque output to 207lb ft. Some launch variants continue with the old powertrain, however.

New available kit includes heated rear seats, adaptive front lighting and a Fender premium audio system. Every Passat comes with Volkswagen’s Car-Net App Connect features, bringing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, while a three-month subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio is included.

Say hello to the facelifted (US-spec) Volkswagen Passat

The facelifted Volkswagen Passat for the United States has been revealed at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Of course, we must point out that the model offered in North America (as well as the one revealed for China in October 2018) is different to the European-spec Passat – which itself is expected to be facelifted soon – sold here in South Africa.

Indeed, the model we know runs on the VW Group’s familiar MQB platform, while this US-spec version remains on the older PQ46 architecture.

The updated US-spec model features standard LED headlamps and taillamps, along with more prominent Passat badging that runs the width of the bootlid. It runs on 17-inch alloy wheels as standard, although 18- and 19-inch items will also be available.

The cockpit features a horizontal design, incorporating air vents that flow across the dash. A new instrument panel has been added, along with a fresh glass-covered infotainment touchscreen arrangement.

The facelifted Passat for the North American market soldiers on with the Wolfsburg-based brand’s familiar 2,0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but now linked to the front wheels via a torque-converter automatic transmission.

“Passat is the only midsize sedan to offer German driving dynamics at an affordable price and has long resonated with buyers for its combination of comfort, reliability and driving dynamics,” said Scott Keogh, CEO of the North American region at Volkswagen. “With this new model, we’ve stepped up the style factor and upgraded the technology to make it even more attractive. In addition, we’ve made desirable convenience and driver-assistance features more accessible.”
