Hi all

My 2008 VW Polo Classic keeps cutting out. It happens especially in traffic, at 1st or 2nd gear. The rev counter just drops. If I keep my foot on the accelerator it picks up again and goes.
Does anybody have any idea why this is happening?
My Dad has checked all of the filters, the battery is brand new and we can't think of anything else.

No error lights?

Pull the plug leads out one by one. If the idle doesn't drop when you pull out one of them it's a faulty lead or dead plug.

Could be overheating as well, what is the temp gauge saying when this happens?

Vacuum leak.
Idle control valve.

Is the check engine light on?

Check oil, if it's milky than you will need to have the head checked.

As mentioned , check for vacuum leak.Any leak after the MAF sensor confuses the ECU , and the car will cut out when comming to a stop or breaking.Recently had this.Simple fix , one of the hoses on the intake manifold popped off.

It's an intermittent problem, so wouldn't the MAF issue be going on all of the time?
I drive a very short distance to work everyday and it doesn't happen. I drove to cape town and it didn't happen but when I am in traffic for an extended period it starts cutting out. I also had a diagnostic test done on the car and it picked up no errors...

Don't take it to a mechanic, they might charge you for finding the fault.

Check or replace earth cable going from negative terminal to chassis. The citi golf had the same problem
