Just a quick question...

Anyone know why when you switch the aircon on in a Polo it automatically switches the inside air on? I find it pretty annoying...

It circulates the air inside the car thus cools the interior faster. This thus prolongs the lifespan of the aircon as it doesn't have to work as hard as when its cooling the warm air entering the car.

If you want fresh :wtf:and cold air, leave the window open with the aircon on. :wtf:

Isn't what the point? I want cold fresh air, not cold recirculated air.

I just turn the inside air off and leave the aircon on but it's annoying, hence my question...

Then maybe you should have asked about the re-circulate function, and "switches the inside air on".

I have a non Vivo Polo, and it does that on the 3 settings only if it was used previously. If on the windscreen setting it turns inside-air off.

I don't like driving with the window open... (I have my reasons)

Well I thought that was the same thing? Is there any way to have it not automatically turn on the re-circulate function when you put the aircon on?

AFAIK...

To avoid this just turn back your heat dial a tad. So that the Heat dial is not on full Cold.
(man its difficult to explain).

Look at image, i am talking about the dial on the far left.

If your heat dial is in the full Cold (blue) position to the left then your aircon initiates the inside air on auto-on.

Just turn the (far left)Dial to the right slightly this will stop the aircon from using the auto inside air function.

Thanks for this, will give it a try when I'm at work again... Company cars...

A bit late to the party, but SFourie_15 is 100% right. The Climatic aircon on on the Polo is semi-automatic - it will vary the temperature of air it blows dynamically - but dial all the way to the left means maximum cooling, which is why it switches on the recirculation function.

It will also switch to recirculation mode automatically when you select reverse gear, to prevent the system from pulling exhaust gas into the cabin.

^^ that

found that out after many shouting at the car for doing what it wants with the aircon. I found it also turned on my aircon when I redirected the airflow to blow up onto the windscreen, which was helpful most of the time, but not always.
