Vw Polo Playa 1.4 2011 Car Does Not Start

Vehicle is doing 190000km problem was jerking rough idle and noisy.at first checked the coil pack just replaced two.put new plugs still no change.got a mechanic to open the head found that the tappet on the valve the clip was broken and it dislodge off the valve.sent it to the engineers did the seals and replaced 4 new valves.set the timing using the power tool and checked the chain all was fine.turned the engine then started the car.it started at first but once pressed accelerator it switches off.open to test the throttle body by turning the ignition and pressing the accelarator to the ground the throttle does not open.tested the fuel line there was no air coming through.can someone assist me on what next to do.I have an appointment with someone to do a diagnostic test for me later today.does it sound like a major problem or not?please advise tx
 
You saying the throttle does not open when you press the accelerator? Solve that first then.
 
there is no air in the fuel line we did test it out.how do we solve the throttle problem.will diagnostics reset be the solution

Is the throttle cable or electrically operated?

How do people always know this

EDIT: just remembered with the help of google what the polo playa looked like, think the OP means 2001, I highly doubt electronic throttle then.

I don't know but I can't think of any reason other than a snapped cable that would explain the throttle not opening when the pedal is pressed which leads me to believe that maybe it is electronic after all.
 
Well the simple answer would then be the manually operate the throttle body to test the throttle notion.

Either way confirming the actual car would help as a start...I don't see an original Polo Play / Seat Ibiza from 2001 haven't an electronic throttle but you never know.

OP operate the throttle manually like this...


And there is definitely a throttle cable running off that as you can see so odds are you'll find your problem just watching that while someone presses on the pedal.

If the throttle doesn't move...cable is buggered.

Should still be able to see the throttle body moving if you press on the accelerator as a process of elimination.

Oh wait you did actually do that already based on your original post.

So could very well be the drive-by-wire throttle that is the issue or wiring loom damaged in some way. You'd probably need a volt meter or VAG-system to look deeper into that.

Either way you are in the territory where it's not a DIY fix. Not sure how the mechanic that did all the valves and stuff couldn't fix your car to a working condition?

Or is this a new problem well after it was running with all those fixes?

What happens if you pushed the throttle butterfly open by hand?

after we turned the engine it car started but once we pressed the accelerator it switched off.he then took out the throttle body and cleaned it and put it back.this problem I never had even b4 my head was taken out
 
TPS could also have failed I guess which would give it a zero reading and make it go nowhere.

I would expect a check engine light to come on then though.
