Hi everyone, would just like some honest input on a matter that I have been thinking about often lately. So I have been saving for my 1st car and its almost time for me too brave the dealership. Im just not quite sure which car to pick up, Im leaning more towards the new vivo (highline) which is around 230k give or take but Im willing to go up to 280k for a used polo gti 2016 model and up. So my question is, in your opinion will a used polo gti be a good reliable 1st vehicle to purchase ? Thank you in advance for you thoughts

First of all I think you should start shopping for Insurance on the car, have you considered this? You may get a bit of a surprise (good or bad) as that will bump up your upkeep of the car.

Second, how long have you been driving? A Polo GTI, jokes aside, is pretty powerful for a first car, especially if experience is low, this will also affect your insurance if your License is fairly new.

Third, have you shopped around and looked at other less risky brands? Or considered something less powerful?

Fourth, I would suggest doing research on financing, are you buying cash or going in with a large deposit?

With all that said, I think a Polo GTI is an awesome car get some proper comprehensive insurance, good deal with warranty and service plan (make sure you can afford to maintain the car).

I have been driving for 5 years, deposit on the vehicle will be 100k. Im closing in on that amount, the power of the vehicle isnt something that bothers me as I already own a superbike. Will it be a mistake buying a used polo gti or not ?

Why not go for a demo 1.0 Polo Comfortline?

That way you're in a new Polo instead of a Vivo and someone has already taken part of the depreciation knock.

You can also look at 1 - 2 year old Opel Astra's and Renault Mégane's.
