Good luck trying to sell it without a FSH.

+1

Change oil filter,
Sparkplugs,
water,
breakfluid,
power steering fluid.

Thats about it. Cost me R350 at most for all the stuff and doing it myself.

VW would probably charge you R800 ?

It might cost you half to do it yourself, but then you're stuck with the car. I wouldn't buy a car that has been serviced by a bloke in his backyard, would you? Servicing it at the dealer costs a bit more, but it gives potential buyers and indication that the car was serviced by qualified people.

I usually pay about R500 for a minor service on a Polo 2.0. I doubt the Golfs cost much higher.

take it to an RMI mechanic who specialises in VW - lots of them around.

IMHO, I'd rather use the backyard mechanic who actually knows how to fix something than those replacement-monkeys from the stealers.

I'm not gonna sell my car, ever. Will drive it until it gets written off or fall apart :p

How many thousand km service?
How much does VW want?

VW Menlyn Pretoria charges for a 45K service on a 1.6 Polo:
oil (R266.80),
oil-filter (R104.85),
sump-plug (R16.73),
labour (R400),
vehicle diagnostic (R220),
Brake fluid change (R305.02)
Brake fluid (R47.44)
To-pup steering fluid (R35) .
Total with other small sundries and VAT R1666.25

No new plugs or air-filter.

And on top of that they don't wash engines as they are not allowed to and won't take no responsibility if you wash it yourself.

Ridiculous

if he had a service plan, why would he bother looking for some other random vw garage ? i would still recommend going the vw route, they know their cars

I got a service plan on my car and I hate taking my car to VW for a service, imo they are very bad.

Took my car for its 30 000km service on Thursday and when I got it back they did not sign/stamp the service book, all my wheels had 4 locknuts before taking the car for a service, today I noticed each wheel got 1 locknut missing.

And then there are a bunch of small things they can improve on regarding customer service.

;)

I agree with the whole selling thing too - but if you truly intend driving it till it falls apart, I suppose you could try yourself.

Don't you need tools and things though? VW's have computers to reset?

PS Quote edited above

Im making it my mission to tell everybody NOT to go to Auto-Station in Bellville (Durban Road) After sending my car for a major service i noticed that it had a oil leak, i took it back and they claimed it wasnt their fault and that i needed a oil pump that would cost me R2600. I took the car for a second opinion and it turned out the "mechanic" didnt replace all the bolts after replacing my cam belt and that is what caused the leak. I suspect they purposely sabotaged the car.
