Item wanted: I am looking for an IDE Laptop HDD. My daughter's laptop dropped, and the drive is no longer working.
Is packaging essential?: Nope
Desired age and condition: Working is all that is important
Location: Gauteng
Willing to accept a shipped item: Yes

This is an extremely old laptop. The laptop itself is probably not worth more than R200, she only uses it for youtube, so i don't not want to spend more than R100 on the drive, i'll rather bin the laptop.

Can the laptop boot from IDE?

If so, then will booting off an external HDD/USB memory stick work?

But as post #5 said - a cheap tablet will work just as well. 7" tablets have good battery life and is not too clumsy/large/heavy.

Thanx for the tablet tips, but I am a firm believer in that the kids have to work for their gadgets, and a tablet is not one of her priorities atm
