I use SABnzbd to schedule and download files, and it has worked a dream. I am with WA and for me one of their strong points is downloading files, which I do during download plus times.

Yesterday afternoon I started downloading some files, and then went on to pause the program as the scheduled run time is from 00:00 (this is what I do most days). This morning I saw that nothing had happened. Sent a ticket to support who said engineers would look into matter and I would get feedback.

Came home this afternoon, and still nothing working. Tried to download with grabit from WA newsserver as well as Astraweb, and nothing. Phoned support who said no problems on their side and said they would look into but basically all was fine so the problem must be on my side (even though nothing has changed on my computer and settings etc). I disabled firewalls and still nothing; went to Microsoft virus and checked settings as well as disabling real time scans, and still no downloads taking place.

I am pretty sure the problem is not on my side, but was not left with too much confidence with WA support after my call.

Anyone else having issues or any ideas? Thanks so much

Just connect with my Afrihost account, and using Grabit and Astraweb, downloading works a dream, so the problem can not be on my side, from what I can see.

Back to WA support and see if we can make any progress

Now they have tested and yes there seems to be a problem with the news server, so even though I reported this this morning, it appears not to have been taken at all seriously, and only when I had a follow up phone call and a test was done did support seem to find a problem. Not the best of service sadly from WA.

Anyway hopefully it will soon be sorted by the overworked engineers!!

Definitely something wrong with the WA server, got a 436 error in the logs this morning and just now when I tried to connect. Only info on a 436 error I can get is "Transfer failed - try again later". Not much help.

Looks like it is fixed now. My downloads also didn;t work last nite on the wa news server, however looking at it now it seems to be downloading.

Morning guys,

@Fulton: What Usenet server where you using last night, also news.wa.co.za?

I'll need to follow up with the DSL guys and have a look to see what went wrong with the news server last night. Will post up some feedback as soon as it's available :)

Hi Jeff

Thanks for looking into this. By last night, everything was fine, so my answer below is to Monday night, Tuesday morning

My primary news server is WA and if that is not available then the secondary is Astraweb. Neither worked.

Also what was annoying was that my support ticket was not responded to and that only on my second call to support were any tests etc run and then the problem was discovered, even though I had been told before that the error must be on my side.

Will wait for feedback. Thanks

Apologies Fulton.
This was related to some binary files missing. It was built up again, fixing the issue.

I cant imagine the news server being a priority to fix when issues are brought up. Chances are this will go to the back of the queue until such point as there is a chance to look into it. Its a free service, to all sorts of not so legal content... i wouldnt just start complaining about it when theres an issue and you dont get immediate attention.
