WA Rain LTE CRAP speeds

Hi All,

Seems the evenings are starting to be unusable on this connection!!!!

Speeds are below 5mbps down and 4mbs up!

Does the below help anyone in identifying an issue?

What area are you in?

Signal levels look fine, possibly just tower congestion. There was another thread somewhere here with a toolkit that you can use to force your modem to use the 2600 MHz spectrum. Give that a try, it may help.

FWIW, 5Mbps is hardly unusable, I just switched to Rain from a 1Mbps ADSL. It's like a dream... so it's all relative...

Dude I also went from a 1mb adsl line to Rain. When I got it a month ago it was a consitent 30Mbs, to now drop to 5Mbs is bollocks!

I can rather take the 10mb ADSL they have in the area I have moved to....
 
That depends on your needs I guess. For me the Rain is cheaper so I'll stick with it. Got between 40-50 Mbps when I started and haven't bothered doing a speedtest since then, it's been fine.

Granted I don't have a big family, it's just me and the wife and neither of us are heavy users.

FWIW - if your'e on Web Africa or one of the other providers it doesn't make a difference, they just resell the Rain service.

You can switch between 1800MHz and 2600MHz. 2600MHz is usually faster but not always so try both and see which one providers the best speed.
 
Well shoot, its back to 25Mbs... Consistency would be nice. Not going to complain though I guess.

Thanks Cavedog will keep the tool should the issue crop up again and test.
 
Do you have an external antennae connected and which router are you using, B315 / B618?

Edit: Okay, I saw it's the B618. :o

His signal levels are -81 dBm, which is more than enough. External antenna wont help here.

If the signal were the problem he'd be getting bad speeds consistently, not periodically in the evenings. If you can do 25 Mbps at an off-peak time that means your signal strength is at least good enough to do 25 Mbps, and if it slows down it's for other reasons - probably tower congestion.

I'd still suggest forcing it to the 2600 MHz band (though you may need an antenna if you do this as it doesn't penetrate buildings as well as the 1800 MHz band does) - that might give you a bit more clear spectrum to breathe in. But it also might make no difference at all. You'd need to experiment.

Your SINR of 2 looks a bit low. Other two look ok. See attched pic.

Since they made changes to the network 1 week ago strange things are happening.

Found my consistency has changed. The other day in POE 247ms latency.
