WACS cable maintenance downtime concerns

Hershaw added that he does not expect the WACS issue to have a significant impact on them because of their high redundancy, which includes significant capacity on Seacom.

For some reason I cannot read Mweb and high redundancy in the same sentence...

Please tell me AfriHost won't be affected with this :o

Afrihost shouldn't be affected as they have capacity on SAT3, EASSy and Seacom

I'm confused, I thought MWEB used Seacom as their main capacity? Althought I guess that kinda goes with what McGuywer said, clearly they don't have any redundancy.

Why don't I believe him?

MWEB ISP CEO Derek Hershaw said that they are aware of the issue, but are still awaiting final confirmation of the exact date of the repairs.

Same here, my left hemisphere which is responsible for speech comprehension crashes (luckily no permanent damages as a result of this) whenever I read a sentence that includes 2 specific words - MWEB and (redundancy or reliability).

You forgot "speed" and services which are paid for!

For Cape Town MWeb users the difference between WACS and SEACOM is a jump in latency from 160ms to 220ms, plus more risk of downtime...

So this is going to be interesting. Which ISP's have not got redundancy and are using WACS....
As was said earlier, at least WACS are giving advance notice, although in this case they know that they will probably have downtime, as opposed to a ship dragging anchor and f$cking up a cable.

IMHO, mweb went down the drain as soon as Rudi left, no more innovation !!

+1 nerf!

Cancelled two Mweb Uncapped accounts in the last two months due to this.
