Which one should I buy?
Recently I took a much needed break in Ramsgate with the wife and kids (I tried to lose them at the airport, but no luck).
And yes. We spent a lot of lunch-times at The Waffle House, partaking in their incredible menu.

Alas. Holidays, like streakers, are fleeting. And soon I was back at work.
But the Waffle has stayed with me. And we already have pizza Saturday at home, so why not waffle Wednesday?
So we pulled the old Safeway waffle maker (wedding present) out of storage and tried to make Belgian Waffles.
It was a sad day. Looks like it couldn't heat the dough enough to bake it , not to mention make it crispy.

My question is now - fellow waffle lovers - which waffle maker is best for home use?
And related - who knows of a good egg free recipe? The Waffle house had one that was incredible - according to my daughter.

I just got a standard waffle maker with the non stick coating.Think it cost something like R200.I still use spray and cook though.I make use of the premix waffle batter that is made by snowflake.

We could have done without the picture you inconsiderate bastard.

I bought the KRUPS waffle maker at dion wired a few months ago... best one ever unlike the sunbeam crap and it makes the waffles nice and deap.
Gets a bit messy if you over fill it so i end up leaving the lid open until the batter firms up a bit before closing it.

Ive also never has any luck making waffles like the waffle house.
It seems like the maker just does not get hot enough or it does not get evenly toasted on both sides. But after returning two makers already, and with two in the cupboard I think the problem lies elsewhere.
Ive tried making my own mixes as well as using those snowflake premixes, so I'm watching this post with eagle eyes to see who comes up with the best solution:D,

Just one more question. How full are you supposed to make the waffle iron?

I think its a combination of factors. These guys make over 400 waffles a day, they have the recipe and amounts down to a 't'.
And their Waffle Maker is nice and hot for the entire day.

Here's the recipe I use for waffles and pancakes (US style)

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups flour
3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 1/4 cups milk
1 egg
3 tablespoons butter, melted (40g)

I have a round waffle maker but tbh I'd prefer the square ones as you can then freeze any leftovers and just reheat in the toaster.

mein gott these waffles/pancakes are delicious:

• 300g (2 cups) self-raising flour
• Pinch of salt
• 500ml (2 cups) milk
• 2 eggs
• 60g butter, melted
• Melted butter, extra, to grease
• 2 x 250g punnets strawberries,
• washed, hulled, halved, to serve
• Maple syrup, to serve
Maple syrup butter
• 120g butter, at room temperature
• 1 tbs maple syrup
1. Step 1
Sift the flour and salt into a large bowl. Make a well in the centre. Whisk together the milk and eggs in a large jug. Add the milk mixture to the flour mixture, whisking constantly until a smooth batter forms. Stir in the butter. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 30 minutes to rest.
2. Step 2
Meanwhile, to make the maple syrup butter, use an electric beater to beat the butter in a medium bowl until pale and creamy. Add the maple syrup and beat until well combined.
3. Step 3
Heat a large non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Brush with the extra melted butter to lightly grease. Pour 80ml (1/3 cup) of the batter into the pan to form a 15cm-diameter pancake. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until bubbles appear on the surface and the pancake is golden underneath. Turn and cook for a further 1-2 minutes or until golden. Transfer to a plate and cover with a clean tea towel to keep warm. Repeat, in 9 more batches, with melted butter and remaining batter, reheating pan between batches, to make 10 pancakes.
4. Step 4
Place pancakes on serving plates. Top with the maple syrup butter and strawberries. Drizzle over maple syrup to serve.

enjoy!

The Kenwood works well and good value for money. Multi Snacker - sandwich maker, wafflemaker, griller, toaster and griddle. Has a safety latch, non stick coated plates, on, off & ready neon indicators, and opens flat for using as a Griddle.
