I seem to spend most of my life on hold to one company or another listening to their bloody elevator music. While I was on hold today, I got bored and wrote a program to time my experience.

I had to phone Telkom today to make some enquiries. I got through to a very nice lady called Porsche who was fast, efficient and intelligent. I know, weird huh?

The first image is how long I waited before my call was answered. The second image is how long it took Porsche to deal with the problem. Pretty good actually as the enquiry was fairly complex.

Anyone who wants the wait program can get it here. I'd be interested in knowing how long people are waiting for Telkom, be it for installations, phone enquiries and general stuff. Perhaps there'll be a prize for the person with the highest waiting time :D (Plus proof)

That little program looks kewl!! However there can be a bit of a flaw in the process....No offense. Some could just leave the meter running and take a snapshot and say... Look at me, I should win because I waited my whole life for Telkom and STILL didn't get my line...

Anyway...

Just a thought.

Screw that. I just phoned them for my customary call and it takes a while so was making coffee and walking to the fridge still fully expecting to be able to make my coffee, drink it and eat a bagel b4 they picked up.

When i was at the fridge like honestly 10 seconds after i pressed the last option they picked up.
Was caught so off guard that I bungled the whole call. Had to run back to my desk and scratch round for my order number. Usually i can do all this b4 they even get halfway through their 10th repetition of that evil music of theirs.

I'm about to do my weekly call now and ask why my ADSL installation is now more then a month overdue... clock starting...

Five minutes, at a service level that's still not acceptable. It's still 20+ minutes quicker then what I usually experience. No Telkom dataminers that frequent this site, you may not quote me as saying the service has improved. You've still a long way to go!

Five minutes is of course excellent for Telkom. Now if only they'd get in line with EVERY OTHER INDUSTRY and get faster. Hell, my time for fixing a printer is faster than Telkom's hold.

Can someone create a "Counter" website that when you are on hold you enter the amount of seconds you were on hold..

E.g. Average South Africans were on hold at Telkom for 4hrs Today ... A combined total of 12 lifetimes have been wasted thus far starting at 1November.

So telkom can see how many lifetimes they are wasting.

I also dealt with a Porsche once - if memory serves, also very pleasant and helpful.
Oh, and just to make sure - "Telkom, do NOT use the above comment by me as a misquote indicating that I am overall happy with your company, because I am not".
