Anyone worked on any of the Riverbed Steelhead EX and Exinda WAN Op devices?
Would like to know you opinions regarding these devices if possible please

We are currently running a POC with the Riverbed devices (Exinda POC was done last year)
We will have to buy about 80 or so devices, so not going to be cheap.
Exinda did very well, our main "problem" application's WAN data was reduced by a whopping 97%. That just tells me it's a very badly written application, and the developers are not going to re-write it as they took two years to get it to actually work :wtf:

So far Riverbed is also hitting the 97% on WAN data reduction, so I need to make a dissension soon on which devices we will go for... any recommendations between the two?

Riverbed is good because its a large company and no need to worry about it doing a "Expand" xD
Exinda is a great product but its not a big as Riverbed and could be another "Expand"
Cisco WAAS is another option ( not my personal fav )

in the end Riverbed FTW!

Software Wan Optimization

Hi there, Have you looked at Certeon ? www.certeon.com.

I was just in South Africa doing an evaluation for a large corporate and Certeon made it to the final two vendors with Riverbed. They are a software accelerator. Take a look www.certeon.com. Very easy and simple to set up.

Forget WAN Op appliances, move to the cloud!

WAN Op boxes are a thing of yesterday. Noone wants to pay high CAPEX for these appliances anymore, be responsible for its continuous upgrade and maintenance and have no flexibility of adding or removing capacity as per changing business needs. Everything is moving to the cloud now. WAN Optimization as-a-Service helps businesses in number of ways:
1) Zero CapEx (Lower Total Cost of Ownership and higher ROI)
2) Simple and Fast deployment
3) Fully managed service
4) Scalable and flexible
5) End to end visibility

Gartner, Forbes, Economic Times everyone is talking about this. Here is an interesting read for you -> http://bit.ly/OKfMYm

Hi ShawnStar,

I had been running Riverbed for roughly two years at the company whereby:
- JHB Head Office got a big 1050 appliance & R/Bed Mobile Controller Appliance
- One of the bigger offices in Durban have a 550 appliance
- and another smaller office in Cape Town has 250 appliance
- Small satellite offices and "road warriors" (guys with a notebook & 3G) have Riverbed Mobile Agent installed on their machines

The optimization of the Steelhead devices are fantastic. IT IS NOT A CHEAP SOLUTION, but dammit it is good. Plus, like one of the guys said already, it is the market leader with proper support and maintenance. There arent many true WAN optimization tools and you will pay for a solution but the increase in staff productivity makes up for it.

REgards,

I didn't think anyone still looks at buying these things!
Most of our clients are throwing theirs out, so if you're looking for cheap options for WAN optimizers, send me a PM and I will give you the address of where to collect them...
