hi there

been reading up on wow and it sounds awesome

whats do I need to start up?

I got a good spec pc.
dial up internet  lol

whats adsl speed is recommended?

and any idea where I might get the best deal to connect?

thx:D

I used to play on iBurst with about 600-800ms lag. My g/f is playing at the moment on our 384 ADSL, and it seems laggy as hell. Often over 2000 ping, even though I'll be playing TF2 on a local server at the same time as she's playing WoW and I'll only have like 14 ping. Not sure if Web Africa's throttling the port thatWoW uses or what.

well at the moment i'm using a 1gb unshaped webafrica account on a 384 line.

On average my latency is 250-350, sometime more sometimes less, depending on activity.
Haven't really been playing on my shaped account for a while but yesterday I forgot to change over to unshaped and was getting about 500-700. (for about 5min before i realised :P)

Im now on a 384kbps line with a 5gb cap (Axxess Unshaped)
and im paying bout R859 a month (its meant 2 b a 4mb line tho - time 2 whine/b*tch/moan to axxess again)

plays wow perfectly 500ms-700ms tbh

I have a 4096kbps line with a local only account and a VPN connection via www.it24.co.za and I get around 300-400ms :)

Total cost: R603 :D

hey
thx for the fast replies :)

my founds are somehow limited hehehe
would a 384 line be ok?

yeah

1gb is also fine if ur starting out

sadly, the addiction will start, friends family everything else will seem boring, and u'll grind work 2 play wow , once that happens a 1gb wont b enuf :p /true story

so i need to upgrade my line to a adsl one from telkom
and then get a isp?

any isp that u recommend?

LOL Option!

Yeah 384 is good and you can use a 1gb account :)

I'm using local only accounts as they do not hav shaping on (supposed to not have, but they do slightly) and the VPN to connect internationally.

For normal playing 1gb will be fine, but you are going to run into a problem once you installed the game. Im going to take a wil guess and say the updates from the cd to current live client is approx 2gb+. Try to see if there is anyone in your area that can give you the updated game client.

hi there

Is 3g an option? or is it much slower than adsl?

iBurst is an option. I know of a lot of my guild mates that use iBurst. Lag can cause issues now and then and disconnects has played a roll in our failure in raids before :p Like yesterday...

I'm playing on 3G at the mo and my biggest problem is not the latency but the instability.

I'll play with good latency and then i'm suddenly getting anything up to 8K spikes. It's a fundamental flaw of the 3G protocol so there isn't much I can do.

Hehe when this happend, i un-boring'ed my family.. and got them addicted too.. Both my parents and my sister play now xD Im so evil

3g is viable, 800-1000ms usually
Well i live next to a mtn tower and on my hsdpa i get 400-800
most of the time dc abot 5 times a month and i play alot.if you get 1000 latency its max for pve and 800 is max for pvp thats it for me.
lol i had guy in party challenge me for duel lost and said he had major lag i asked whats your latency he sai its 250 lol
i told him i always play on 500+ he was amazed at how i keeped up in instance.

But to pvp with 1000+ not good idea you will lose agains even noobs with good ms.

Adsl

I have a 4 MB unshaped account and my latency is between 450-750ms mostly in the 600 area.
