Want to borrow VDSL modem

I thought I'd push my luck

The telkom call centre says I can convert my home line to VDSL, but the borderline condescending Telkom store staff don't know jack about my area being VDSL ready.

So now I don't want to buy a preposterously overpriced modem just yet. I also want to see what kind of speed I can expect on a VDSL line.

You'll have to get them to test your line viability first. What are you current line stats on ADSL2+?

I have a useless VDSL modem at home you could test your syncing with, it just can't dial up to the interwebs sadly.

I did, according to the service activation dept I can convert my line to VDSL.

I don't remember what my line stats are, but last time I checked it was above average. I'm less than 1km away from an exchange.

Unless you actually are in PTA, I remember you being on the same exchange I am ? WBLX03 ? If yes, I'd appreciate it if I could use the useless modem, it would at least give me an idea of whether I indeed can run VDSL and what speed I can expect.

OH yeah this account was created when I was staying pretoria, never bothered to update the location

I am indeed in the Stellenridge area. Can always swing by at a time that suits you, seeing as it is not too far and I would be interested to see at what speeds this modem can sync. Once I find a way to grab a firmware update I may get it to work one day.
