Would it not be easier to buy a cheapo tablet with GPS built in and hook it up to a 12V charger in the car? Bigger screen, a bit cheaper and there are many free navigation apps on the Play Store

Gps comes in handy when the 3G signal is crappy. Maybe he wants to go bundu bashing?
But then again you can always cache the maps of the areas you are visiting. Or download an app that offers preloaded maps.
