so bear with me, I've gotten my hands on an old PS2 console which apparently still works (not slim model). I'm a bit of a nostalgia gamer, but never got into console games and sort of want to catch up - especially titles never released on pc. Apparently there were over 5000 games made of ps2 alone, so there should be no shortage of fun to be hadden. Emulation seems the best option for 8-bit and similar consoles, but I'm also not keen on the emulators in this case after trying those out aeons ago already with rental copies and the associated hit-and-miss scenario.

Problem is I can't seem to find ROMS in any reasonable quantity online and the games you find at the thrift store is usually scratched and hard to find. Where did all the games go to!? Surely no-one would just toss them out, and at least save it for garage sale day. I could wait til I go overseas again, but then I'd need to get a NTSC machine.Any one know of online repositories for PS1/2 roms that are for OEM not emulation? I will accept PM. Really miss the old online game trading days (which is how I used to get all my games).

Also post old playstation titles that you recommend here! I've played and liked the big name releases (Crash Bandicoot, Tekken, Gran Turismo) that were playstation-only, but there has to be a few hidden gems amongst those 5000 that weren't just from corporate Disney or Mattel... I'm also not sold on xbox yet but humour me

How often have you found 2nd hand games that weren't scratched or otherwise dodge? not to mention overpriced. if only there was some way to check

Cash Crusaders is a bricks and mortar shop, you can view the disks before purchasing.

What do you mean for OEM and not emulation?

Original Equipment Manufacturer, as in the original machine? If you go to USA or Japan you will find warehouses stock full of VirtualBoys and Dreamcasts, but here your best bet is Batman Begins in a Lenasia pawn shop.

Why not set up a PS2 emulator on a PC and download the games.

The ROMS/ISOs online can be used on real hardware, obviously you'll need modded hardware to play them on

thx I found a few rom sites after scouring the forums, and local stockists/importers of nostalgia titles! Reply if you'd like a few links. I'm not really a consoles fan ( can you tell?) but if there are a few select titles that were never on PC and not too mainstream then plz share! I'll post here if I find an old gem

Good point, and I can probably dl the roms in good conscience once I have the actual disk and it doesn't work right.

Cos its illegal! lol read my post

yes I'll have to modify somehow if I don't find originals

Okay so I've scoured the web for some examples of old PS1/2 gems that I'm interested in. Yes yes we all love Fifa'98 and Crash Bandicoot, but wouldn't you be keen to try one of these lesser knowns:

http://ps2.wikia.com/wiki/Hidden_Gems

Mr. Mosquito
You are Mister Mosquito, a uninvited guest in the Yamada family home in Japan. In order to store enough food for the coming winter, you need to drink as much of the family members' precious blood as possible while they are in bed, talking on the phone, watching TV, or taking a bath.

Disaster Report
he game places you in the role of a newspaper reporter stuck on an island that is being continuously hit with severe aftershocks from a major earthquake. The objective is not only to escape but to do so with as much of the story as possible behind the destruction of Capital City.

Raw Danger
orrential rains have devastated your city and now there is no choice but to escape at any cost. Flash floods, collapsing buildings, and extreme cold all stand in the way of seeing your family again. Only with true bravery and quick thinking will you survive the raw danger before you.

Urban Chaos Riot Response
Use a mix of lethal and non-lethal means to take the city's enemies down. Start out on your own, but as you play you'll recruit local police, firemen and EMTs into your unit, creating a local army that's powerful enough t o take the gangs down once and for all. Take control of civilian population, to ensure their safety

Parasite Eve
Set in modern-day New York City, PARASITE EVE puts the player in the role of NYPD officer Aya Brea as she attempts to solve the mystery of Eve, a young woman responsible for a string of gruesome deaths and accidents in the city. Transformed by self aware mitochondria, Eve possesses the power to mutate animals into brutal killing machines, spontaneously ignite the innocent, and generally make a mess of everything she comes in contact with.
